    The Richard A. and Susan F. Smith Center for Outcomes Research at BIDMC is seeking a Clinical Research Writing Assistant (CRWA).

    The Smith Center is devoted to addressing the most pressing issues in cardiovascular care through innovative and rigorous analysis of data.

    The CRWA will engage in a variety of collaborative research projects working closely with clinician investigators, statisticians, administrative staff and trainees in both the Section for Interventional Cardiology and Vascular Research, and the Section for Health Policy and Equity Research.

    Both Sections are highly active in nationally recognized cardiovascular research. As CRWA you will have a key role in helping produce high-impact research.


    The Interventional Cardiology and Vascular Research section focuses on using real-world data to perform comparative effectiveness and outcomes research, with a concentration on the treatment of peripheral vascular disorders.

    Research has centered on drug delivery, intravascular imaging, antithrombotic therapy, renal denervation, and pulmonary embolism intervention, with an emphasis on the use of novel statistical methods and the use of risk prediction models to guide treatment.


    The Health Policy & Equity section research combines the use of real-world data with advanced statistical, econometric, and epidemiological methods to answer questions related to healthcare access, quality and value, and population health, with a focus on cardiovascular outcomes.

    This research, primarily funded by the NIH, explores how state and federal health policies impact care delivery, clinical outcomes, and health equity.


    Research in both sections is funded by various grants including: the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and other extramural funding.

    Each section regularly produces and publishes research in high-impact journals such as JAMA and NEJM.

    The CRWA will help manage industry, NIH-funded studies and other clinical research and writing related activities.

    The variety of tasks associated with this position, include, but are not limited to the following:

    assisting with IRB communications and documentation, writing progress reports, assisting with scientific writing (including drafting manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and PowerPoint presentations), assistance with grant applications, administrative tasks, organization of study documentation to meet study protocols and regulatory requirements, medical chart review, completion of case report forms, data extraction and upload, and occasional patient contact for research studies.

    Excellent writing and organization skills are essential.


    Job Description:

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Partners with Clinical Research Specialist to prepare new IRB applications and annual reviews.
    • Partners with the Clinical Research Specialist to prepare grant applications and annual reports.
    • Partners with Clinical Research Specialist and Principal Investigators (PIs) in manuscript preparation.
    • Partners with Clinical Research Specialist and PIs in student and fellow recruitment and retention

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree required.
    • 0-1 years related work experience required in Strong writing experince.
    • Must have exceptional writing skills and attention to details
    • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

    Competencies:

    • Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are guided by general instructions and practices requiring some interpretation. May make recommendations for solving problems of moderate complexity and importance.
    • Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are varied, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation using direct observation, knowledge and skills based on general precedents.
    • Independence of Action: Ability to set goals and determines how to accomplish defined results with some guidelines. Manager/Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.
    • Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.
    • Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
    • Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.
    • Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
    • Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
