The
City of Anaheim Utilities Department is seeking a talented
Water Production Superintendent** to supervise and coordinate the activities and operations involved in the maintenance and repair of water production and water treatment systems in the Water Production Section within the Public Utilities Department; to coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies, and the general public; and to provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Water Field Operations Manager.


Essential Functions:


  • The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices._Coordinate the organization, staffing, and operational activities for the water production maintenance, water treatment plant services, and other activities within the Water Production Section.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; recommend and implement resulting policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; identify resource needs; review with appropriate management staff; implement improvements.
  • Direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for water production services and activities; assign work activities and projects; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.
  • Participate in the selection of water production personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
  • Participate in the development and administration of assigned program budget; forecast funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; recommend adjustments as necessary.
  • Direct, coordinate, implement, and update the security program for Water Services; identify security needs and recommend policies, procedures, and equipment to improve and maintain security.
  • Coordinate water production facility maintenance activities and services with those of other divisions and outside agencies and organizations; provide technical assistance to the Water Field Operations Manager; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence.
  • Review current and completed work of production system staff to ensure high productivity and efficiency; ensure that appropriate quality standards are maintained; establish safety procedures and guidelines for accident prevention.
  • Implement and monitor the water production systems maintenance plan; investigate new work methods and equipment to improve maintenance and repair activities to improve water treatment efficiency and quality.
  • Participate in the planning of new systems and facilities; participate in the development of specifications for the purchase of equipment.
  • Implement, comply with, and monitor hazardous material procedures and local, county, state, and federal regulations.
  • Provide staff assistance to the Water Field Operations Manager; participate on a variety of committees; prepare and present staff reports and other correspondence as appropriate and necessary.
  • Coordinate Water Production Section activities with those of other divisions and outside agencies and organizations.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings; maintain awareness of new trends and developments in the fields of water treatment, distribution, and system maintenance; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs.
  • Perform related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Experience and Education: Five (5) years of responsible water production maintenance and repair experience including one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience supplemented by completion of the twelfth grade and specialized training in civil engineering, water technology, water utility science, or a related field. An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

License/Certification Required:
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.

Possession of a current Water Treatment Operator Grade II Certificate and a Water Distribution Operator Grade III Certificate from the State Water Resources Control Board Division of Drinking Water.
