Description

The Plastics Technician optimises the operation of the 5 Netstal plastic injection moulding machines to ensure they are running efficiently, supplying ISO compliant injection moulded parts to Assembly.

Working with the Mould Shop Manager and Supervisor, the role is responsible for streamlining the production process from raw material to finished goods, including mould optimisation (and may include the installation of robotic equipment which interfaces with the Netstal machines).

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Technical

  • Make sure products are produced on time and are to ISO standards
  • Manufacturing engineering, including standard operation, waste elimination, continuous improvement, engineering change and control
  • Use vernier callipers, micrometers and gauges to ensure product is moulded within specification
  • Perform start ups and shut down of equipment
  • Set and programme all machinery in the mould shop
  • Improve moulding parameters and streamline process
  • Technical oversight of die setting all moulding machines and checking samples
  • Perform insert changing and safe and accurate storage of inserts using safety equipment
  • Follow the production schedule when assisting production
  • Improving production processes and despruing machines used in the Plastics Department
  • Implement Mould Shop automation and efficiency improvements
  • Input in the design and manufacture of automation, sorting equipment and new tooling
  • Maintenance of moulding machines and ancillaries
  • Advise on maintenance schedule and systems
  • Trouble shooting and resolving problems as they arise
  • Sorting and weight counting finished parts when required
  • Mixing materials and filling hoppers when required
  • Report all tool damage, wear and possible need for modification to the manager and advise on corrective action
  • Ensure high quality of all work performed
Production

  • Make sure products are produced on time and are to ISO standards
  • Monitor and record the quality of moulded parts as per ISO set up sheets
  • Follow the production schedule when assisting production
  • Return dies to die rack/storage area sprayed cleaned and lubricated when required
  • Ensure ISO manual is adhered to and any variances in procedure are brought to the attention of the manager
  • Sorting and weight counting finished parts when required
  • Mixing materials and filling hoppers when required
  • Correctly complete production/quality documentation
  • Report all tool damage, wear and possible need for modification to the manager and advise on corrective action
  • Ensure high quality of all work performed

  • Keep sensitive customer and/or product information confidential

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS

  • New Zealand Certificate in Manufacturing (Plastics) or Plastics Processing (Level 2, 3 or 4. Preferred but not essential)
  • Current Reach Forkhoist Licence (Preferred but not essential, training can be provided)
  • Current First Aid Certificate (Preferred but not essential, training can be provided)

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant practical experience in a similar role and industry
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.


  • Literacy

  • Ability to read and write in English and complete worksheets
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office
  • Experience working on an ERP system (QAD experience ideal)
  • Ability to build strong working relationships
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and at times under pressure/short deadlines
  • A 'cando' attitude and teamwork approach
  • Flexibility around work pattern
  • Experience with Netsal Injection Moulders an advantage
  • Experience with Engineered Plastic Compound an advantage

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physically fit and able to work at height, lift and move product and equipment

  • Internal all staff and management
  • External tooling suppliers, material suppliers, Netsal and ancillary agents, external customers and merchants
