Job Overview:


The Public Information Officer (PIO) is responsible for promptly communicating factual and accurate information to the news media, public officials, and the public.

The member performs communications, operations, and public relations duties and tasks specific to the position. The PIO must share information completely and accurately and abide by our official policy and procedures. The PIO will support the Sheriff or Incident Commander during disaster response and recovery. The employee will communicate incidents and information to the media and public and coordinate responses with various organizations.

The role of a PIO can be executed by one person or a team, depending on the emergency and what resources are available.

The employee will perform all duties listed below and any other assigned tasks.


Duties:


  • Completes assignments as directed. (2)
  • Create clear and concise communication between the media, the public, and the Sheriff's Office. (2)
  • Disseminate factual and accurate information to media. (2)
  • Arrange and coordinate press conferences. (2)
  • Write press releases, prepare information to be distributed to the media, and draft speeches or talking points for the Sheriff or his designee. (2)
  • Arrange interviews for government officials. (1)
  • Respond to requests for information from media outlets. (2)
  • Generate, edit and disseminate media releases. (2)
  • Maintain records of all media releases. (1)
  • Provide updates to the media on current and unsolved investigations. (1)
  • Disseminate public record information upon request. (2)
  • Participants in community relations functions. (1)
  • Assist agency personnel with media relations. (2)
  • Assist and update information on social media accounts. (2)
  • Implement changes and new programs as directed. (1)
  • Inform supervisors of events and activities in progress. (2)

Requirements:


  • Must have a bachelor's degree and equivalent experience in Public Relations, Marketing, or another related field.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver's license

Pay:
$71, $108,197.93 per year
