Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.

To support the vision and goals of the campus and district Fine Arts program, to produce outstanding performing groups, to develop individual musicianship with all students, to promote an appreciation for the best in all areas of music, and to teach the value of individual and team effort in reaching a common goal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's Degree from accredited university

Special Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of beginning band pedagogy

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) and Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) rules and procedures

Experience:

At least one year of student teaching or approved internship

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop individual musicianship with all students and promote an appreciation for music

Assist students in preparation for TMEA and UIL individual and group competition

Direct band section rehearsals

Prepare bands for concerts, contests and other events

Attend and co-direct all outside of the academic day functions and events connected to the Grand Lakes JHS Band

Maintain quality student management and discipline in the organization and in the classroom

Maintain and accurate inventory and assignment records of school uniforms and instruments

Performs other duties as assigned

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional travel required in-district and out-of-district for school functions and/or activities. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.

Wage/Hour Status:
Exempt
