Essential Job Functions:


  • Coordinates initiatives and campaigns in legislative and electoral space in collaboration with MTA staff, member organizers, community organizations/coalitions, and other stakeholders.
  • Recruits new, and develops existing, member organizers and leaders through organizing trainings, oneonones and group meetings.
  • Organizes new, and develops existing, member action teams by establishing organizing structures with clear objectives, benchmarks, and timelines.
  • Strategizes and plans actions, working collaboratively with other MTA divisions, to engage MTA members, locals, and allies in direct action with local, state, and federal elected officials and government agencies.
  • Supports management in creating structures for communication and collaboration between MTA divisions, local unions, member leaders, coalition partners, and campaign teams.
  • Uses data strategically to assess progress and needs on various projects and campaigns.
  • Carries out responsibilities with a positive, cooperative spirit.

Specific Responsibilities:


  • Trains SDCs, LPAT teams, members, and allies on political action.
  • Works with SDCs to build LPAT teams, develop strategies to achieve their goals while centering the social, racial, economic justice work of the union.
  • Collaborates with appropriate MTA staff to develop political and organizing strategies for all campaigns and initiatives.
  • Creates and coordinates (predictive dialer) phone banks, text banks, and canvases.
  • Creates scripts, pulls voter data (cuts turf), tracks results, and provides training and materials for canvases and phone/text banks.
  • With support of manager, maintains familiarity with all relevant MTA division programs, activities, and procedures and prioritizes work accordingly.
  • With support of manager maintains proficiency in VAN, Everyaction, Mobilize, and other campaign and organizing databases and tools.
  • Partners with NEA staff on MTA involvement in national campaigns.
  • Provides support to MTA committees, task forces, and other teams as assigned.
  • Carries out other related duties as needed or as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Commitment to the vision and goals of the MTA and rank & file unionism.
  • 2+ years of experience on political, legislative, or organizing campaigns.
  • Exceptional problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and conscientious attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, teamwork, and ability to effectively work with members, staff, elected officials, and consultants.
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and to create written materials and plans in a rapid fashion.
  • High energy, demonstrates initiative and positive cooperative attitude.
