Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Medical Coder/Biller to join our healthcare team.

The medical biller will be responsible for accurately coding and billing medical procedures and diagnoses, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and medical billing processes and ensuring timely reimbursement from insurance companies.

Must have a strong understanding of medical terminology and medical office procedures.


Responsibilities

  • Review and verify the accuracy of patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Accurately assign CTP, ICD10, and HCPCS codes to medical procedures and diagnoses.
  • Ensure all codes comply with coding guidelines and regulations.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify information and ensure accurate coding.
  • Review and analyze patient medical records to extract relevant information for coding.
  • Knowledgeable about insurance copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and fee schedules.
  • Conducts insurance verification via phone or electronically.
  • Monitors submitted claims; follow up on unpaid claims and denials and resubmit as necessary.
  • Communicate with insurance companies to resolve billing issues or discrepancies.
  • Generate and submit medical bills to patients or relevant parties.
  • Keep up with the current changes in medical coding and billing regulations.
  • Verify and enter charges into the EHR.
  • Identify and rectify any coding errors or discrepancies.
  • Provide training or support to staff members on coding, copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and fee schedules.
  • Balances daily batches and reports.
  • Answers questions for patients, staff, and insurance companies.
  • Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints.
  • Evaluates patient's financial status and establishes a payment plan.
  • Follows and reports status of delinquent accounts.
  • Performs various collection actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting and resubmitting claims.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality and adheres to all HIPPA guidelines/regulations.
  • Credential doctor with insurance companies.
  • Performs miscellaneous jobrelated duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Medical Coder/Biller
  • Certification in medical coding (e.g., CPC, CCS) is preferred
  • Proficient in billing procedures for all types of insurances including Medicare
  • Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD10, and HCPCS coding systems
  • Skilled in using Excel and Word
  • Proficient in using Adobe and PDF for document management
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Great communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Experience

  • Neurosurgery
  • Surgery
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in medical billing
  • Experience and knowledge of working with commercial and government payers
  • ECW
