Porter-Starke Services is a non-profit community health center with offices in Northwest Indiana, including Valparaiso, Portage, and Knox. Our full continuum of care serves adults, families, adolescents, and children with mental health or substance abuse issues. We treat all clients on individual plans of care, tailored to specific needs. Porter-Starke Services is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life within our communities. **POSITION PURPOSE:**

The Housekeeper cleans the administrative and client facilities of the organization to ensure a clean, orderly, safe and attractive environment for the well being of the clients, visitors and staff. The Housekeeper may be assigned to clean at multiple office locations in the local area as needed.

**Competencies:**

The staff member must demonstrate knowledge of:

General understanding of the techniques in housekeeping as outlined in state and government agency regulations.

Chemicals and cleansers used when performing the duties of this position.

The staff member must demonstrate skills in:

Health care housekeeping procedures and techniques.

**Essential Functions:**

Essential functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Utilizes proper procedures for safety, environmental, and infection control.

Cleans and sanitizes lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, offices and client rooms.

Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors.

Dusts furniture.

Empties wastebaskets and transports trash and waste to disposal area.

Replenishes bathroom supplies.

Basic computer usage.

Other duties as assigned.

**Responsibilities:**

Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and draperies or blinds.

Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, door panels and sills.

Completes reports as requested.

**TIME MANAGEMENT:**

Makes efficient use of work time to accomplish assignments as well as the ability to accept or respond to change in the work environment in a way that promotes the organization's goals and objectives.

Performs duties in a logical, expedient order to meet organization's standards of appearance and workmanship.

**TEAMWORK:**

Promotes effective working relationships and works effectively as part of the departmental team to facilitate the meeting of both departmental and agency goals and objectives.

**SAFETY:**

Responsible for following all organization and department precautions and procedures in the performance of all duties to ensure a safe work environment for self and others.

**CONTINUING EDUCATION:**

Participates in professional development and in-service programs as required by position.

**IMPROVING ORGANIZATION PERFORMANCE:**

Participates in improving organizational performance through involvement in agency and department quality improvement programs, as needed.

**QUALIFICATIONS:**

High school diploma or G.E.D. and experience with a nursing home or hospital are preferred.
