GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:
Manages, coordinates, and supervises the activities of a support section of the clinical laboratory.
Accountable for quality and quantity of work performed in an accurate and efficient manner that is consistent with the philosophy and vision of the Medical Center SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor's degree in office management, clinical science or related field preferred.
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience working in a hospital laboratory setting at a medical center or equivalent work experience in a management or supervisory position in healthcare required.
General business, accounting, medical terminology, quality assurance, and health insurance experience preferred.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES :
Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. Hires, trains, orients, and promotes teamwork and mentors department staff. Understands the need for ICD 10 codes and importance in the preanalytical realm of laboratory. Effectively prioritizes work to maintain maximum efficiency. Effectively communicates with pathologists, laboratory manager, nurses and clinicians to ensure optimum performance of department.
Plans, prepares, and coordinates work schedules to provide adequate coverage and efficient use of staff to maintain high department productivity.
Investigates and documents inter-departmental issues with focus on successful resolution.Monitors patient satisfaction with emphasis on continual improvement of the Laboratory inpatient and/or outpatient experience which includes quality, accuracy, billing and timeliness of services.
Responsible for monitoring and ordering supplies for lab support services. Performs all necessary tasks involved with sending specimens for outside testing or consultation. Performs other supervisory duties including, but not limited to, performance evaluations and mentoring, motivating, counseling and terminating employees. Develops and maintains written department policies and procedures to support all support services areas. Assists the manager in the preparation of the budget; determines department needs and allocates all resources within budget. Maintains department employee records to JCAHO standard. Collaborates with other service departments as needed to improve patient flow and work processes.Ability to interact on a daily basis with laboratory clerical staff, other department staff, outside billing and insurance agencies, coroners, funeral home personnel, department coordinators, department director, medical staff and physician office staff.
Knowledge of computers, printers, and general office equipment. Demonstrated ability to function under stress, confusion and in difficult situations.
