Position Summary:

Addresses underlying factors contributing to absenteeism, creates a positive and supportive school environment promoting regular student attendance, and works closely with school administrators, teachers, students and families to monitor and improve student attendance.


Position Responsibilities:


  • Fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment by addressing attendance challenges and supports students in their educational journey.
  • Tracks daily attendance records for all students.
  • Identifies patterns of absenteeism and tardiness.
  • Utilizes attendance data to generate reports and analyze trends.
  • Identifies students with chronic absenteeism or truancy issues.
  • Collaborates with teachers, counselors, social workers, and administrators to develop and implement interventions.
  • Conducts home visits and meetings with parents to address attendance concerns.
  • Provides resources and support to families facing challenges impacting attendance.
  • Conducts meetings with students to address attendance concerns.
  • Works closely with school staff to implement attendance improvement strategies.
  • Collaborates with community organizations, social services, and other relevant agencies to address attendancerelated issues.
  • Creates and distributes materials promoting the benefits of regular attendance.
  • Inputs data into the school's student information system (SIS) and generates attendance reports as needed.
  • Develops and monitors individualized attendance plans for students with persistent absenteeism.
  • Monitors progress and adjusts intervention strategies as necessary.
  • Maintains accurate, detailed records of attendancerelated interactions and interventions.
  • Prepares reports for school administrators and district officials as required.
  • Responds promptly to sudden spikes in absenteeism or other attendancerelated crises.
  • Implements crisis intervention strategies and collaborates with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Stays informed about relevant laws, regulations, and best practices related to student attendance and truancy.
  • Attends training sessions and conferences to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential skills and experience:


  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with students, families, and communities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations related to attendance.
  • Ability to analyze data and generate meaningful reports.
  • Empathy and understanding of diverse family situations and cultural backgrounds.
  • Must maintain courtesy and professionalism with colleagues, parents, students, and other visitors.
  • Must be discreet and maintain strict confidentiality on student matters.
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures and operation of office machines/equipment.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Experience working in a high school setting
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish) _preferred_

Terms of Employment:


  • Fulltime, tenmonth work year (180 days of school including student attendance days, staff institutes, and parent/teacher conference days)
  • Ten (10) additional days may be assigned by the Principal prior to the start and/or after the conclusion of the regular school year
  • Starting wage is $17.00$18.70/hour based on education and verified experience
  • IMRF pension
  • Paid 30minute lunch and two paid 15minute breaks
  • Sick and personal days
  • Generous fringe benefits as provided by the current Agreement.

Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the current negotiated AFT/IFTLocal #943 Agreement and Board policy.
