Salary - $19.50 per hour_


SUMMARY:
Performs a variety of strenuous manual labor. May operate one or more types of light or moderately heavy motor equipment. Does related work as assigned under direct or indirect supervision. Must be available for emergency basis stand-by.


QUALIFICATIONS:

To successfully perform in this position, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform street maintenance; repair of street surface which includes manual labor for other jobrelated programs, including but not limited to, paving, paving prep, rotomill and working with hot and cold asphalt and crackseal materials.
  • Clean catch basins and hand sweeps streets, sidewalks, islands and approaches.
  • Haul leaves, branches, dirt, debris and various other materials.
  • Cut and trim bushes and brush on or near streets and alleys.
  • Assist in the maintenance of retention basins.
  • Operate less than 5ton steel drum roller, leaf vacuum, crackseal machine, patch boxes and air compressors.
  • Operate forklift and other small equipment, ex. skid steer with attachments and backhoe.
  • Lift and operate 90pound jackhammer.
  • Lift and operate 120pound plate compactor.
  • Work with asphalt lute and other related tools.
  • Operate and drive single and tandem axle dump truck, with or without snowplow and salt spreader attachment, pulling various trailers and attachments.
  • Operate Emergency Unit 21
  • Operate traffic control barricade truck.
  • Operate water flushers.
  • Operate oil and tack distributors.
  • Clean and perform routine maintenance on all equipment, such as snow blade changes, mounting/demounting of fall/winter equipment.
  • Assume responsibility for equipment and tools assigned to Equipment Operator II.
  • Maintain daily reports.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Must have the ability to perform very strenuous work in extremely adverse weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of work crew practices, basic safety and traffic rules and regulations.
  • Assumes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED

  • Ability to read and write.
  • Clean driving record.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must have or be able to obtain a Class "A" or Class "B" Commercial Driver's license within 60 working days with endorsements as noted:

Class "A" Commercial Driver's License:
Air brake, Combination Vehicle, Tanker

Class "B" Commercial Driver's License:
Air Brake, Tanker


TOOLS USED:

Shovels, brooms, rakes, asphalt lutes, hand tamps, steel pry bar, clay picks, sledgehammers and all other manual, powered, electric, pneumatic or hydraulic tools needed to complete assignments as directed by supervisor.
