JOB PURPOSE


The job purpose of a Medical Assistant at the Cancer and Blood Specialty Clinic is to provide exceptional patient care and support to medical professionals in the clinic.

This role involves assisting with various medical procedures, performing administrative tasks, and ensuring a smooth workflow within the clinic.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assisting physicians and other healthcare professionals with patient examinations, treatments, and procedures
  • Taking and recording accurate vital signs, medical history, and changes to patient's physical status
  • Perform phlebotomy and basic laboratory tests
  • Administer injections
  • Assist in bone marrow biopsy
  • Review physician orders, lab requests or followup needs with patients
  • Maintain supplies and cleanliness of examination rooms
  • Managing patient records, including updating electronic health records and maintaining confidentiality
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills in the performance of work assignments and duties
  • Greet patients, checkin and checkout
  • Communicating with patients, families, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Assisting in the coordination of diagnostic tests, imaging studies, and hospital admissions
  • Scheduling appointments, coordinating referrals, and managing patient flow within the clinic
  • Answering phone calls

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a medical assistant training program from an accredited institution OR Bachelor's degree in a related field OR minimum of 2 years as a medical assistant in an office or clinic setting
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant is preferred
  • Previous experience working in a medical setting, particularly in oncology or hematology, is advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and basic medical procedures
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and other medical software
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fastpaced clinical environment
  • Knowledge of infection control protocols and safety measures
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
  • Familiarity with cancer and bloodrelated conditions preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The Medical Assistant will work in an outpatient clinic setting during regular clinic hours
  • The clinic may be fastpaced, with a high volume of patients and various medical procedures taking place
  • The medical assistant may also be required to collaborate with other healthcare professionals and follow established clinic policies and procedures
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
  • Manual dexterity and handeye coordination to perform medical procedures
  • Visual acuity and ability to hear verbal instructions
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects, such as medical equipment or supplies
  • Adherence to proper infection control protocols and safety measures

DIRECT REPORTS

  • The Medical Assistant at the Cancer and Blood Specialty Clinic does not have direct reports. However, they may collaborate with other healthcare professionals and work as part of a team to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Pay:
$ $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
