    Posting Summary
  • Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program Associate II (Master Gardener Program
  • Morris County) for the department of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Reports to the Morris County Agent, Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Rutgers NJAES Cooperative Extension (RCE).
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Provides leadership and support, in collaboration with County Agent and County Extension Department Head, in identifying and conducting local programming to meet clientele needs in home horticulture in Morris County, New Jersey.
  • Takes major responsibility for coordination and operation of the county Rutgers Master Gardener (RMG) Program) and minor responsibility for coordination and operation of the Rutgers Environmental Stewards (RES) Program.
  • Coordinates and supervises educational outreach activities (educational workshops, demonstrations, training programs, volunteer opportunities) for the public.
  • Serves as liaison to RMG Advisory Committee, Morris County Parks Department, and other RCE advisory committees as necessary.
  • Works collaboratively with countybased RCE department personnel, community volunteers and organizations.
  • Expected to actively participate in appropriate departmental, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, University and County administrative functions, as requested.

    Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferably in a science such as plant science, horticulture, ornamental horticulture, entomology, plant pathology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Certifications/Licenses

  • A valid driver's license and two years of driving experience is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of educational program development and operation, volunteer management, working with diverse audiences, collaboration/coalition building, and promotion/outreach.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Effective public speaking, presentation, and demonstration skills.
  • Ability to utilize technology to reach and serve clientele; possess computer and communication technology skills.
  • Must be wellorganized and skilled at problemsolving.
  • Managerial experience as it relates to volunteer management. Ability to supervise volunteer activities effectively, prioritizing safety, engagement, and success.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse audiences. Awareness and practice of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrate initiative as a selfstarter, and able to perform routine job activities.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and other Windows software.
  • Ability to learn new software for outreach, communication, data collection and storage, and impact quantification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in one or more of the following:
  • gardening or working outdoors
- plant identification
- conflict resolution
- event planning from classroom curriculum to luncheons, or field trips.

  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • A valid NJDEP Commer
