Reading Interventionist Job Description


The Reading Interventionist will be trained in the Wilson Reading System and will work with students in our ICT cohorts using the Wilson Reading System, in five small pull-out groups daily.

The Reading Interventionist will collaborate with the ELA team to support phonics growth in the classroom, as well as the Student Supports team to create IEPs that reflect students' decoding strengths and needs, including participation in IEP meetings.

The Reading Interventionist will be responsible for continuing professional development in the area of Reading Interventions and may be asked to attend additional training throughout the school year_.

Reading Interventionist Job Responsibilities

  • Create and execute lessons for students that meet their IEP goals and support their reading growth goals.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to create and execute lessons that support all students, including those with IEPs or 504 plans.
  • Assist with the creation, execution, and modification of IEPs and 504 plans. Communicating with the District's Committee for Special Education (CSE) as needed.
  • Collaborate with Dean of Student Supports and general education teachers in coordinating schedules, modifications, and accommodations for all students with special needs.
  • Assist the Dean of Student Supports with managing the reading intervention program.
  • Assist in the Response to Intervention (RTI) process, and any testing necessary.
  • Manage parent relationships for students on your case load receiving reading intervention support.

Reading Interventionist Job Qualifications

  • Unwaveringly high expectations for all students with the belief that every child should have access to a college education.
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred
  • Valid New York State Special Education Certification is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers.
  • Ability to stay organized and effective despite a highly variable daily schedule.
  • Track record of supporting students with special needs in achieving high levels of reading growth.

$60, $70,000.00 per year
