Job Summary

The Leader Clearance Engineer leads the team responsible to authorize all applicable gas related work and design hydraulic models and simulations to analyze all applicable gas related work, through engineering, planning, and design for all NiSource gas transmission and distribution operations, including, but not limited to: providing oversight to all field resources while supporting internal and external audits and administrative activities; developing analytical tools to evaluate clearance prioritization; coordinating activities with NiSource, upstream pipeline providers, and contractors to ensure adherence to key components of Gas Standards and all applicable Operational Notices; supporting NiSource's simultaneous work avoidance efforts; and exercising independent judgment and discretion to ensure NiSource maintains situational awareness on all activities affecting its gas assets. This Leader will supervise employees that will use hydraulic models and technical tools to review concurrent work, supply positions, and Real Time system conditions; support the review and revision process of all gas special instructions; and provide exceptional customer service for all NiSource LDCs while providing meaningful metrics and analytics to measure performance of all clearance center activities.

Essential Functions

• Lead all clearance activities across the Company
• Manage and develop team of Clearance Engineers responsible for executing clearances, technical simulations, hydraulic models, and daily operations of the clearance engineering processes
• Coach, develop, and evaluate clearance staff
• Direct and coordinate outages, emergencies, and Gas Control emergency response efforts
• Promote the use of technology, tools, clearance management databases, and planning techniques to improve safety and process results
• Execute project management for the development and maintenance of a SCADA twin to train and support Operator Qualification of Gas Controllers and other special projects and initiatives
• Direct and promote continuous improvement of NiSource's simultaneous work avoidance efforts
• Oversee and represent Clearance Center for compliance and regulatory audits, management data requests, and development of processes, procedures, and gas standards
• Assign projects and responsibilities to staff that fosters a sense of ownership and accountability while also providing development opportunities
• Drive functional consistency, process standardization and operational excellence by establishing and meeting budgetary and operational metric goals
• Supplement Manager, Clearance Coordination Center and serve as an interim manager basis as needed
• All other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications For Position

• Graduate from a four year ABET accredited program with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering?or four year ABET accredited program with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology
• 5+ years of experience in gas utility Engineering or Operations
• Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles, gas system design and budget management
• Familiarity with common computer applications
• Knowledge of utility infrastructures
• Excellent planning, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
• Skilled in the use of Word, Excel and equivalent applications
• Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and lead a team in high profile and fast paced environment
• Demonstrated problem solving skills and capacity to make decisions among various alternatives and communicate to all stakeholders
• Proven ability to make rational decisions under pressure.
• Strong knowledge of safety and compliance requirements
• Demonstrated proficiency with industry codes, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures relative to gas utility engineering, construction, operations and safety
• Demonstrated experience developing processes and standards to be applied across different disciplines
• Demonstrated proficiency with NiSource codes, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures relative to gas utility engineering, construction, operations and safety.
• Demonstrated proficiency with NiSource utility infrastructure
• Demonstrated proficiency in budget origination, management and forecasting
• Demonstrated proficiency with common NiSource and gas utility computer applications (eg WMS, DIS/CIS, GIS, Synergi, j5, SCADA, etc.)

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

• Post graduate degree in Business or Engineering
• Professional Engineers license
• +5 years of experience in gas utility Engineering or Operations

$107, $160,500.00
