Summary:
The First Assistant Women's Basketball Coach provides instruction to members of the women's basketball team and makes recommendations to the Head Coach related to game and practice strategy.
Essential Functions:
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.- This position assists the head coach in instructing student-athletes during practices and games.
Works closely with student-athletes during post and pre-season conditioning, to work on techniques that will increase strength, agility, and overall basketball skills to obtain the best overall conditioning level possible.
Responsible for teaching and conducting skill workouts and weight training sessions for student-athletes.Watches game film with student-athletes to assist with instruction and helps prepare the team for opponents during the season.- This position performs duties to include evaluating prospective student-athletes both on the basketball floor and in the classroom in order to recruit quality student athletes to American University.
This includes phone calling, letter writing, and various other recruiting tasks.- Performs administrative duties as assigned by the Head Coach.- Follows the progress of our student-athletes in the classroom to make sure that our students are succeeding academically.

Travel Required:
- Travel locally, regionally and nationally for competition and potentially internationally for recruiting. After hours and weekend work frequently required to attend games and related athletic events.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree. 35 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Education and Experiences:
- Master's degree.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
- Commitment and ability to maintain and exhibit the highest standards of ethical conduct.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate well to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Previous experience as a basketball athlete at the collegiate or professional level.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
