Job Duties

Organizational Objective
The Department of Elections promotes and supports accurate, fair, open and secure elections for the citizens of the Commonwealth.

ELECT ensures the proper administration of election laws, campaign finance disclosure compliance, and voter registration processes in the state by promulgating rules, regulations, issuing instructions, and providing information to local Electoral Boards and general registrars.


The Department of Elections envisions a highly modern, efficient and professional electoral process that is trustworthy and accountable at all levels and engages Virginia's diverse citizenry in the most fundamental right in a democratic society: the right to vote.


About the Position

The Elections & Registration Services Supervisor manages Election and Registration Services staff, regular communications with local election officials, and election administration activities.

Provides project management and process analysis in the area of election administration and systems. Ensures compliance with agency and Board policies, regulations and governing laws for the administration of elections in the Commonwealth. Manages and provides support to localities for election administration processes and questions.

Develops, coordinates, delivers and maintains current user documentation to ensure the uniformity, fairness, openness and legality of elections in Virginia.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience supervising, managing, and developing staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and streamline processes and otherwise drive organizational efficiencies.
  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and managerial skills.
  • Ability to influence and build teamwork that fosters a collaborative and continually improving environment.
  • Knowledge of Virginia and federal election laws, regulations, and processes.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects with a variety of technologies and platforms.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficient knowledge in use of personal computer and software (Microsoft Office suite).
  • Ability to create professional written deliverables that accurately document processes, tasks and procedures.
  • Possess multitasking skills and the ability to use time efficiently.
  • Ability to maintain a highquality performance under pressure and deadlines.
  • Be a team player.
  • Have business awareness and be willing to learn about new developments.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions and approaches to problems.

Additional Considerations
A minimum of five years supervisory and project management experience.
Demonstrated experience managing complex processes within strict deadlines.
Experience documenting operational procedures.


Special Instructions
Some travel required.

Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver's license.
