Duties:


  • Provide direct nursing care and assists patients, of all acuity levels (stable to terminally ill); with activities of daily living including, but not limited to, bathing, hygiene, feeding, ambulation, skin care and positioning.
  • Assist medical providers with a variety of diagnostic examinations.
  • Provide customer service to patients, families, visitors, and other medical, nursing, and ancillary personnel.
  • Maintain paper and computerized medical records on assigned patients.
  • Administer medications by oral, subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular routes under the supervision of a registered nurse or credentialed provider.

  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic reverification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • A preplacement medical examination is required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 44 pounds is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill nonprivileged professional credential requirements.

Experience required:


One year of nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility performing duties such as providing nursing care to a variety of patients, administering medications, and reviewing medical data.

This definition of nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
