Position Summary
Operating since 1982, the Banner School serves approximately 150 students within the Frederick area and provides a comprehensive, high-quality experience for preschool to eighth grade students.
We offer small classroom settings where students engage with compassionate, committed faculty members who are eager to participate in the academic and co-curricular life of a nurturing and engaging school community.
The PK 3/4 teacher will offer developmentally appropriate hands-on, project oriented, and individualized language arts, math, science, and social studies lessons aligned with Maryland State Standards and the Banner School instructional approach.
The PK 3/4 school teacher is a creative, dynamic, and engaging educator who serves as the chief educator responsible for teaching grade level content.
- A passion for handson, projectoriented, and experiential lesson plans designed to develop students' content knowledge, academic skills, and critical thinking
- Ability to support individual instruction designed to support and challenge students using multiple learning styles
- Knowledge of PK school students, practice, and pedagogy, and an understanding of their distinct learning and developmental needs
- Ability to communicate effectively and in a timely manner with parents and students
- High professional standards consistent with The Banner School culture of respect and responsive classroom management techniques
- A commitment to professional growth in their discipline and teaching practice.
Essential Functions
This position comes with significant duties in the areas of classroom instruction, parent communication, and program development aligned with the mission of the school.
- Assist the PK 3/4 teacher in the delivery of lessons designed to develop students' content knowledge, academic skills, and critical thinking
- Assist with the implementation of individualized instruction designed to support and challenge students using multiple learning styles
- Assist with the implementation of student centered rotations to support independent learning
- Assist with the delivery of learning opportunities that align with the school wide global learning theme
- Support the evaluation of each student's progress in cognitive and physical skills and well as foundational academic skills
- Assist with developmentally appropriate field trips
- Support the PK 3/4 teacher to offer regular communication with parents to discuss the individual student's progress utilizing multiple electronic platforms (RenWeb/Google Classroom)
- Meet state requirements of annual continuing education hours
Additional Roles and Responsibilities
- Participate in weekly programming activities such as recess assignments, afterschool duties, and carline duty
- Attend faculty meetings and school functions including graduation, open house, back to school events, and other required school events
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma, Bachelor's Degree in early childhood education or a closely related degree preferred
- Completed 45 clock hours or equivalent of early childhood coursework
- 2+ years experience teaching early education students
