Position Summary
The Director of Tax Policy at CalCPA is responsible for coordinating, managing, and driving tax and regulatory initiatives.

In this pivotal role, you will monitor legislative and regulatory developments, engage with member tax practitioners, and represent CalCPA in tax-related matters with key stakeholders.

This position also involves actively participating in various government relations activities to support CalCPA's advocacy efforts, including research, written materials development, project management, legislative response, grassroots coordination, and CalCPA-PAC facilitation.

Reporting to the Vice President of Advocacy and Public Affairs, the Director of Tax Policy plays a crucial role in advancing CalCPA's Government Relations Program.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Tax Policy Leadership: Participate in the development and execution of a comprehensive tax policy strategy for CalCPA, aligning with the organization's mission and goals. Lead efforts to influence tax legislation and regulations in California.

Advocacy and Engagement: Support state-level advocacy strategies for CalCPA, engage with government officials, and promote favorable tax policies while building relationships with policymakers and agencies.

Legislative Monitoring: Monitor state and local tax legislation, regulations, and policy changes. Analyze the potential impact on CalCPA members, the accounting profession, and the broader business community.

Member Education: Provide educational resources and updates on pending tax policies and other relevant public policy topics to CalCPA members. Assist with member legislative and regulatory inquiries and promote CalCPA Government Relations efforts.

Collaboration: Collaborate with other professional organizations, government agencies, and stakeholder groups to build alliances and coalitions supporting tax policy initiatives.

Research and Analysis: Conduct research and analysis on complex tax policy issues to assist in developing resources and policy recommendations to guide CalCPA's advocacy efforts.

Committee Oversight: Assist CalCPA tax-related committees in supporting their work, identifying emerging issues, coordinating policy solutions, and ensuring they are well-informed and engaged in advocacy efforts.

Grassroots: Participate in the development and implementation of grassroots programming that engages and informs CalCPA members in advocacy efforts.

Political: Help increase member political engagement and contributions, keep PAC members informed of activity, and represent CalCPA PAC at various events.

Teamwork: Collaborative mindset and the ability to work with CalCPA staff and member leaders to collectively advance CalCPA's mission.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in political science, public administration, communications, business administration, accounting, finance, law, or a related field.
  • Experience in tax policy, public affairs, lobbying, legislative and regulatory affairs, or a related role.
  • Excellent communication skills representing and promoting the profession.
  • Strategic thinking for effective planning, goal setting, and adaptability.
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to demonstrate independence, initiative, and sound judgment.
  • Team player with integrity and accountability.
  • Effective interaction with staff, customers, regulatory agencies, and members.
  • Flexible work schedule.
  • Flexibility for occasional traveling across the state and nationally.
  • Knowledge of the CPA profession is preferred.

Salary:

$95,000 - $125,000 annual salary.
