Able Seaman Deck (Launch & Retrieval)

Position Overview

The Able Seaman Deck is a member of a navigational watch on the launch and retrieval vessel supporting manned space flight using spaceship Neptune and its twenty million cubic foot space balloon. This position performs a myriad of skilled tasks at the support level as a member of the deck department.

Role and Responsibilities:

Perform assigned deck duties including line handling, boating operations, crane and Aframe operations, davit and lifeboat operations, working in enclosed spaces, at heights and over the side.
Respond to shipboard emergencies including fire, flood, toxic gas, man overboard and abandon ship, be able to administer first aid and CPR.
Exhibit superior workmanship in the maintenance of deck machinery and spaces.
Display acute safety consciousness in every assigned task.
Enforce security measures.
Maintain the vessel in a consistently high condition of readiness and preservation.
Exemplify excellence and accountability for all work.
Other duties as assigned.
