Duties:


As a Supervisory Fish & Wildlife Administrator (Deputy Director), you will perform the following duties:


  • Serves as the Deputy Director & exercises full responsibility for SEFSC operations and programs supporting the development and delivery of science advice and management activities in the southeast Region.
  • Supports management of fish and protected resources within the Southeast Region, including, but not limited to, estimation of fish and protected resources population/stock abundance and distribution and fisheries data collection management.
  • Serves as an advocate and effective spokesperson for research programs and activities of the SEFSC. Coordinates and engages the SEFSC in crosscutting activities of NMFS and NOAA, including involvement on intraagency, interagency and national planning teams, workshops and meetings.
  • Provides oversight to include workload planning and distribution, performance evaluation, advice, counseling, and instruction on administrative and technical matters, personnel hiring, resolution of complaints and grievances, and identification of training needs.

This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). This system replaced the Federal GS pay plan and structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band.
The
ZP-5 is equivalent to the
GS-15.

$165,761-$191,900

  • Salary for Pascagoula, MS: $143,736 $186,85
  • Salary for Miami, FL: $153,088$191,900
  • Salary for Panama City, FL: $143,736 $186,854

To qualify for the 0480 series:


A

Degree:

Biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.


OR

B.

Combination of education and experience:


Courses equivalent to a major, or at least 30 semester hours in courses, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.


OR

C

Experience:

Four years of experience that demonstrated that the applicant acquired knowledge and understanding of one or more of the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, or related disciplines equivalent to that which would have been acquired through completion of a 4-year course of study as described in A above.


AND

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:


Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

This experience need not have been in the federal government.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.


To qualify at the ZP-5 or GS-15:


SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, applicants must also possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZP-4 or GS-14 in the Federal service.


Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:

  • Coordinating the scientific advice, research and data collection needed to effectively manage living marine resources;
  • Supervising subordinates to complete work activities and overseeing execution of budget, personnel and other administrative activities; and
  • Providing oversight over organization wide performance evaluation program.
