ABOUT THE POSITION
The Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the cultural, historical, and architectural heritage of the Gaslamp Quarter.
Through exhibits, tours, festivals, and educational programs the Museum opens a window to the past by depicting the historical developments of downtown San Diego.
The Museum Programs Assistant is responsible for helping to develop and lead programming at the Gaslamp Museum. This position requires a high level of skill, competency, creativity, and the ability to work in a varied environment.Number of hours per week fluctuates with program needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet and welcome all visitors, answers questions and gives directions
- Promotes and sells Museum admissions, guided tour tickets, and membership
- Other Duties as assigned
- Performs opening and closing procedures in both the store and Museum
- Responsible for keeping the store clean, displays stocked, making recommendations on new products.
- Works with Museum team to increase store sales.
- Gives Tours of the Gaslamp Quarter
- Works with team members to create marketing for events, tours, and programs
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be comfortable public speaking and leading groups, previous tour lead experience preferred.
- Minimum 1 year experience in visitor services, tours, or related field.
- Must be reliable, punctual, accountable, and professional
- Experience in hospitality, retail, customer service, or cultural organizations preferred
- Cashhandling experience
- Experience with Shopify and Microsoft Office Suite preferred
- Ability to identify and positively resolve visitor issues in the moment; strong decision making skills necessary
- Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner
- Must have flexible schedule and be able to work weekends, evenings, and special events.
- Effective communications skills; able to write and speak clearly
- Knowledge of San Diego history a plus, but we will teach you everything you need to know
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background and reference check, which will include criminal reports as well as verifications of employment and educational records.
Historical building requires the ability to climb stairs.
