About Us
The Safety Manager supports California Boiler's vision, mission, and values.

This role is responsible for leading and managing the Company's safety initiatives, by developing a safety and risk management culture dedicated to being "best in class." Assures safety program is designed to comply with OSHA and specific industry standards.

Plans and manages the general health, safety, and loss control policies and procedures of the organization. Monitors and evaluates the workplace to ensure compliance with governmental regulatory agencies. Designs and directs safety training programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards.

Develops worker plans and policies for new employee safety orientation including skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment.

Studies, identifies, and reports causes of past accidents and develops recommendations and follow-up to prevent accident recurrences. Reports to the COO. Manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority over personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create an environment of learning, mentoring, and empowerment to promote employee safety engagement.
  • Develop safety policies and procedures that keep staff safe while allowing completion of work within an acceptable timeframe.
  • Conduct audits and review existing health and safety policies.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and conclusions.
  • Monitor results of safety policies and programs to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Conduct organizational need assessments while identifying skill and knowledge gaps where training is needed.
  • Ensure company safety training meets the needs of our growing internal and external requirements and complies with Cal OSHA standards.
  • Take a lead role in incident investigations.
  • Design effective training programs.
  • Collect, review, and document JSA's as well as update as necessary.
  • Develop safety meeting topics.
  • Oversee that OSHA logs are being kept and updated.
  • Oversee that Worker's Comp Claims are being processed in a timely manner.
  • Manages safety incentive programs which reward targeted behaviors and results.
  • Direct the preparation of OSHA required documents and training materials.
  • Keep current on local, state, and federal safety standards.
  • Manages hazard assessment activities.
  • Conducts and/or supervises safety inspections at different job locations.
  • Analyzes inspection and incident data to identify opportunities/root cause to develop preventive and corrective practices.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create safety incentive programs which reward targeted behaviors and yield planned results.
  • Monitor the training and safety database of curriculum, materials, and personnel records.
  • Supervise procurement websites, ISN, Avetta, Veriforce, DISA.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Pursue a combination of skills, knowledge, and education in boiler industry safety.
  • Actively gain in depth technical knowledge of construction related OSHA, federal, state, and local regulatory standards, and the ability to recognize hazardous situations.
  • Implement effective corrective practices.
  • Experience interacting with all levels of staff and third party hired firms.
  • Must be an effective communicator, generating professional written material and delivering effective verbal presentations.
  • Must have a valid California driver's license.
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Excellent organizational skills including handling multiple tasks and prioritizing your work activities.
  • A bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health or related preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Working knowledge of the boiler industry.
  • Rapidly acquire indepth knowledge of OSHA reporting, guidelines, and practices.
  • Experience in reporting and developing policies.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and advisory skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Most of the time this position is in a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate.

A portion of your time will be divided between all our locations, making flexibility and travel a condition of employment.
