Family Law Paralegal Assistant
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Open new files and run conflict checks
- Draft general correspondence, including engagement letters
- Prepare Family Court filings and coordinate with office services
- Perform backup receptionist duties
- Arrange Court appearances
- Process check requests
- Maintain calendars and schedule meetings
- Assist with travel arrangements and prepare expense reimbursements
- Interact with clients and cocounsel
- Assist in request for production, depositions, and analysis of discovery produced by opposing parties and third parties.
- Prepare, review and complete financial reports and discovery on behalf of the firm's client.
- Draft pleadings, routine notices, and motions
- Prepare trial notebooks of witness data, settlement negotiations, exhibits and other documents
- Maintain all caserelated materials according to office filing standards
- Ensure proper filing of original legal documents and complete pleadings per Family Court guidelines
- Maintain calendar of critical dates
- Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish shortterm and longterm tasks
- Keep abreast of current and relevant updates in laws for specific field
- Perform other clerical duties such as schedule appointments, provide information to callers, take dictation, draft and type routine correspondence, scan documents, read and route incoming mail
- Develop constructive and cooperative work relationships with others, maintaining them over time
- Complete special projects as requested and provide assistance to other attorneys and staff members
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred, or relevant legal experience
- Working knowledge of Court policies & procedures
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- The ability to maintain confidential information
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills
- The ability to work in a fastpaced environment
