This newly created role will join one other managing editor to help oversee our newsroom.

Each managing editor will work with designated teams of reporters and editors on planning stories, developing talent, championing innovative tools and more.

The managing editor should have at least three to five years of professional experience in local media. They should be highly collaborative and adaptive to change. It is important that the managing editor has strong technical writing skills and is an effective communicator.

Most importantly, the managing editor should have a passion to learn and collaborate as well as a strong drive to serve the community.

Each of the 22 newspapers has its own team of full-time editors and reporters.

Each managing editor will work with their assigned teams in the following areas to:

Ensure highquality, engaging content is consistently produced to inform our audience;
Foster a culture of learning, pride, collaboration and respect;
Provide ongoing feedback and teach best practices through formal and informal coaching;
Coordinate training sessions in areas such as writing and reporting, sourcing, photography and digital storytelling;
Lead regular planning meetings to review past work and plan upcoming content;
Build and maintain story budgets for print and online;
Edit original content as well as proof and copy edit front and inside pages;
Coordinate content across distribution channels, including print, online, newsletters and social media;
Write impactful local editorials;
Find efficient ways to use innovative tools and channels to better serve our communities; and
Manage special initiatives, such as key stakeholder engagement, enterprise projects and AI strategy.
