- Draft and format core litigation and bankruptcy filings (e.g., complaints, motions, stipulations, and civil cover sheets)
- Prepare filing-specific documents (e.g., liens, pro hac vice filings, and appearances)
- Assemble case support documents (e.g., privilege logs, letters, judgments, administrative records, and routine pleadings)
- Draft written replies to public inquiries on litigation, bankruptcy, and lien matters
- Reply in writing to other agencies and private attorneys when legal and program knowledge is required
- Handle opposing counsel inquiries on ERISA and Section 4042 matters, including abandoned plan terminations
- Review documents for citation accuracy and required formatting for federal and state trial and appellate courts
- Prepare tables of authority and cite-check pleadings using West, Shepard's, and Bluebook standards
- Track court and internal deadlines using TeamConnect, CM/ECF, NextGen, and PACER
- Use legal research and office tools to support casework (e.g., Lexis, Westlaw, LegalEdge, and the internet)
- Conduct thorough legal research, analysis, and evaluation on topics tied to litigation, bankruptcy, and liens
- Maintain case databases and records for litigation, bankruptcy, liens, and discovery documents
- Organize and update subject matter, chronological, and correspondence files
- Reserve conference rooms to support case-related activity
- Arrange case-related meetings and conference calls
- Prepare documents for outbound delivery through U.S. Mail or FedEx, as appropriate
- Participate in training to learn PBGC-specific software applications and workflows
- Perform other related paralegal support duties as assigned
- Strong computer literacy and comfort working in a high-volume, deadline-driven office
- Minimum of three (3) years of paralegal or legal assistant experience
- Minimum of two (2) years supporting senior and general attorneys, and internal and external stakeholders, in a bankruptcy or insolvency-focused office
- Experience filing liens for the Federal Government under Internal Revenue Code § 412(n) and/or § 430(k)
- Experience preparing litigation and bankruptcy documents and correspondence including:
- Experience cite-checking, reviewing, proofreading, and correcting legal docs using legal terminology & office procedures
- Experience in identifying time-sensitive or office-sensitive matters and routing them appropriately
- Experience using litigation and legal support tools including:
