Job Description:


General Summary:


As a member of the Utilities Cell Tower/Rope Access Program, the Agency Instructor I, under direction, is responsible for following approved curriculum course outlines.

Responsible for utilizing knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to help maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction.

May perform online and/or classroom instruction, field-based skills training, and/or provide technical assistance in one or more of specialty area disciplines.

Responsible for using a variety of media to present course material and will assist in creating new and/or updating curriculum content, when necessary, to meet learner needs.

This position reports to the Training Manager.


Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Four years of related experience in cell tower/rope access field.
  • One year of adult education and/or training.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.


Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.- Five or more years or more experience in the construction, installation, maintenance, of cellular towers as a Technician and crew leader.- Six months experience as an Instructor in Cell Tower Technician courses.- Authorized Climber/Authorized Rescuer, Capstan Hoist Operations certifications from a recognized national provider at a minimum.- Rope access Level 1 Certification through recognized national provider.- Current OSHA outreach trainer.- Current 1st Aid/CPR/AED Trainer.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat.
  • Ability to support training delivery for up to 810 hours/day.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to regularly use computer/keyboard.
  • Physical conditioning consistent with movement of self, materials, equipment, setting up a classroom, movement of light, moderate, and/or heavy training equipment and instructional materials and performing demonstrations while elevated.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced working knowledge in elevated work industry.
  • Working knowledge of Regulatory and Compulsory rules related to elevated work industry.
  • Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies.
  • Ability to comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning.
  • Ability to facilitate and adapt course and course content.
  • Ability to conduct virtual learning, online learning, and /or simulationbased training.
  • Ability to interact with clients and staff positively and professionally, groups of various sizes.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone, cameras, microphones.
  • Divisional vehicles/Aerial Lift/Digger Derrick.
  • Hand/power tools.
  • Training equipment.
  • Maintenance equipment.

Notifications:

  • This position is security sensitive.
  • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
  • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
  • This position allows telecommuting per TEEX guidelines.
  • This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.

Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:


Training Support and Delivery - 85%- Instructs cell tower, rope access, elevated rescue, technical and safety courses as directed.- Travels to remote locations and provide classroom instruction or technical assistance across the state and beyond as assigned by program supervisor.- Assists with training and evaluation course instruction and/or provide technical assistance.- Ensures classrooms/indoor and field exercise locations are ready for participants.
