The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the management and administration of the Office of Financial Aid and its functions, including but not limited to accounting operations, budget preparation, preparation of Federal, State and institutional reports, maintenance of Federal fund budgetary controls and regulatory compliance, and the delivery of funds and services to students.

The College uses Ellucian Banner Student Information System to manage and award financial aid.

The Director provides leadership and direction for the delivery and coordination of federal, state and institutional student financial aid programs; coordinates and oversees audits, compliance reviews and account reconciliations and ensures institutional compliance with relevant regulations and statutes.


Additional responsibilities include:

supervision of full-time staff; counseling students and parents; representing the College at community and system wide programs; participation in various internal and external committees.

The Director also works closely with other campus personnel to support registration, enrollment management, and the recruitment and retention efforts of the campus.

The position reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Management within the Division of Enrollment Management.


_Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
_


  • Serves as an integral member of the enrollment management leadership team.
  • Leads all administrative functions of the Office of Financial Aid; supervising staff; manage operational budget; provide professional development opportunities, and evaluate all staff.
  • Directs all student financial aid programs and processes for awarding student loans, grants, and institutional funds, including monitoring college workstudy expenditures and students' satisfactory academic progress.
  • Responsible for completion of and submission of Federal, State, and Institutional reporting required by the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Responsible for the timely and effective awarding of all types of financial aid.
  • Develop and direct financial aid strategies within the framework of federal and state regulations that are consistent with the enrollment management objectives of the College and by administering financial aid, scholarships, and student employment programs that support student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
  • Implement and utilize current and emerging technologies to maximize office efficiencies.
  • Represent the College at open houses, accepted students day, financial aid nights, SUNY Financial Aid Days and other events as requested.
  • Implement and test new software releases and ensure process documentation matches updates.
  • Create and maintain effective communication plans for new incoming and continuing students.
  • Maintain expertise and uptodate knowledge of all Federal and State regulations for financial aid programs.
  • Maintain auditable records of aid awards, aid adjustments, appeals requests and documentation, in accordance with state and federal regulations.

This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but instead receive renewable term appointments.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:

  • Master's Degree and ten years of applicable experience with at least five years in an administrative capacity within a Financial Aid Office.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner Student Information System required.
  • Knowledge of Federal, local, and state programs that provide financial assistance to students, including all pertinent laws, rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability in data analysis, counseling, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work with students of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • An understanding of systems control auditing processes and working knowledge of data systems, including setting up new aid years in Banner; proficiency in management of financial aid need analysis, packaging and required revisions; demonstrated analytical, organizational and supervisory skills; strong counseling skills; ability to gather and compile data and prepare reports; train, supervise, and evaluate the assigned staff; consistently perform under the pressure of deadlines and other administrative demands; and work cooperatively with other campus departments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Previous experience as a Financial Aid director at a higher education institution.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of information processes, to include an understanding of Banner background processes and how these relate to exchange of files with external organizations.
