POSITION:
Medical Assistant


REPORTS TO:
Physician & Administrative Director


JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for delivering excellent patient care first and foremost, assisting the physician with patient care including in preparation for pre-op, post-op, and mínimally invasive procedures; taking vital signs, obtaining the history and chief complaint, assisting with biopsies and select surgery procedures.

Other responsibilities include patient education on treatment plans and medication, nursing procedures, such as suture removal, dressing changes, and completion of pathology and lab requisition documents.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma; college degree preferred.
  • Required credentialing is dependent on the scope of duties and varies by training.
  • Three years of experience in a medical office working as a medical assistant.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Above average computer skills (i.e. Apple products, utilization of MS Office Suite, etc.)
  • Comprehends electronic tracking tools and databases (i.e. Electronic Medical Records and Scheduling)
  • Good understanding of anatomy.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work well as a team member.
  • Well-organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Empathetic with patient needs and concerns.
  • Ability to work well with physicians, anticipating their needs in regard to patient treatment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Primary Duties
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms in order of appointment times. Obtains short history and vital signs as required by patient's chief complaint. Obtains or updates medication list if necessary. Sets up exam room according to scheduled procedure or anticipate physicians needs if nonscheduled procedure is likely.
  • Assists physician with mínimally invasive treatments (i.e. injectables, etc.) and select surgical procedures; in and out of the operating room.
  • Educates patient as required after physician establishes the treatment plan. Ensures that the patient understands the treatment plan, understands the proper use of their medications, and understands their responsibility for compliance with the treatment plan prior to leaving the office. Straightens and cleans exam rooms after patient visits.
  • Performs nursing procedures such as suture removal and dressing changes without direct physician supervision.
  • Completely and correctly fills out all medical documentation for patients as required by physician. Assists administrative staff with data entry of completed documents and clinical staff with visit notes and operative records/reports.
  • Secondary Duties
  • Stocks all exam rooms.
  • Performs all duties related to medical instrument cleaning and sterilization.
  • Notifies clinical staff of supplies needed to avoid shortages.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as needed.

  • Scheduling
  • Answering phones

Clinical Duties:

  • Sterilizing instruments

Supervisor:

  • Physician

Travel Between Offices:

  • Never

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Day Shift

Pay:
$50, $150,000.00 per year
