Job DescriptionMinimum Qualifications:
Education
High School diploma or GED
Experience
A minimum of seven (7) years of transit maintenance experience inspecting and repairing a large inter/intra city bus and/or related vehicular fleet
Experience must include at least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity over fleet maintenance functions, consisting of the oversight of union employees, division environment safety and bus maintenance equipment maintenance, repair and overhaul.
Certification/LicensureA valid driver's license
Preferred
Experience as a senior supervisor and/or manager of a metropolitan bus maintenance facility.
Vocational, technical training and/or Technical Certification/Licenses in automotive maintenance
Associate's Degree in Fleet Management, Engineering, Transportation, or related field .
Medical Group:
Satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this position, if required. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of this position either with or without reasonable accommodations.

Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.
Job Summary:
The Bus Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for effectively and efficiently directing the bus maintenance function of an assigned division within the Department of Bus Service.
The incumbent manages, through subordinate supervisors, the day-to-day bus maintenance activities of a bus division and plans and develops the resources required to accomplish the effective divisional maintenance program, providing service to meet established schedule requirements.
Essential Functions:
Acts as a liaison between the BMNT department and external contractors and vendors for maintenance on the assigned bus fleet.
Works with the Plant Maintenance Department (PLNT) and Bus Service (BUSV) personnel to plan garage facility maintenance activities. Conducts regular safety inspections and safety meetings with employees.
Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate bus fleet and facility inspections. Coordinates with the office of bus planning to ensure deployment of safe and clean buses. Serves on various safety panels and committees to ensure BMNT representation and respective issues are addressed.
Develops budgetary proposals for the divisional maintenance program.
Directs the maintenance supervisors and all associated divisional personnel in the administration and delivery of the maintenance programs.
Mentors employees for succession program and conducts employee performance evaluations. Schedules necessary training to ensure that employees are properly trained. Discusses complaints and grievances with employees and/or their union representatives.
Ensures compliance with safety regulations and procedures. Ensures that maintenance requirements are well planned and that established preventive vehicle maintenance programs and objectives are attained. Manages scheduling of corrective and preventive bus maintenance and inspection.
Identifies potential hazards in the workplace and takes steps to resolve issues. Ensures the garage physical plant is properly maintained. Maintains positive community relations with the property owners surrounding the division maintenance facility.
Oversees bus maintenance operations and resolves issues that arise. Oversees facility infrastructure maintenance.
Reports inspections and compliance issues to the appropriate support office or BMNT leadership for appropriate actions in accordance with standard procedures.
Oversees payroll, vacation, overtime, and absenteeism for staff members. Prepares and reviews reports to ensure work is accomplished properly and effectively.Works with unions on collective bargaining agreement issues. Provides feedback on collective bargaining agreement proposals. Resolves personnel and administrative issues. Monitors ADA compliance.
