The Machine Tool Laboratory WZL at RWTH Aachen is one of the leading research institutes in production engineering and currently employs around 1,025 staff at four chairs.

For more than 100 years, the WZL has been conducting both fundamental and industry-oriented research projects and industrial projects.


In the research group _Industrial Tomography_ at the Chair of Production Metrology and Quality Management, we use deep learning methods to solve machine vision tasks in research and industrial projects.

In addition to the application-specific selection and implementation of machine learning pipelines with established network architectures, our research focuses on the investigation of generative deep learning methods, such as Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), in quality assurance.

We use these methods to balance datasets, automatically annotate them, and interpret the features learned by the DL model. We develop new approaches and algorithms to identify learned quality
