Days required:
Sundays through Thursdays from 9-5. Off every Fridays and Saturday.
The Fluvanna County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (FSPCA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, animal welfare organization. We are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing Fluvanna County's homeless, neglected, and abused dogs and cats. As a small, rural, open-intake shelter, we are proud to maintain a no-kill mission.
This is a full time position that includes weekend and holiday scheduling. 9-5 daily.
We are seeking energetic, conscientious and motivated employees to be responsible for the daily care of our guests (dogs/cats). An individual who has a strong work ethic and is able to work in a fast paced environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Must be able to safely handle cats and dogs that may be scared, shy, or fractious in a humane manner.
- Able to handle a variety of sizes/breeds of canines and felines safely and comfortably.
- Ensure proper cleaning protocols for all kennel or cat areas as well as the facility as a whole in a timely manner.
- Feed all animals their required diet and in the appropriate rations.
- Promote the mental health of the sheltered animals by providing behavioral enrichment as needed.
- Participate in exercise, socialization, and behavioral training of animals to enhance their wellbeing and adoptability.
- Complete daily health and behavior observations of all animals.
- Ensure that all animals have clean blankets or appropriate bedding.
- Ensure all dishes, laundry, litter boxes, crates/carriers are sanitized/washed as needed.
- Advise appropriate staff about customer service and/or personnel issues in a discrete and professional manner.
- Field general inquiries from staff, volunteers, and the public in a calm, courteous, and respectful manner.
- Assist with training and supervision of volunteers.
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of assigned work areas, including daily removal of trash and clutter, and restocking of supplies.
- Ability to work independently as well as a team and take initiative.
- Ensure timely notification of any animal related issues to appropriate staff.
- Ability to spend extended periods of time outdoors in all weather conditions. (Extreme heat and snow)
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid drivers license or reliable transportation.
- Acquire and possess a thorough understanding of, and dedication to, animal welfare issues.
- Animal handling skills
- Basic knowledge and ability to understand aspects of disease and the causes and treatment of animal related problems.
- Must be able to work safely with chemicals and tolerate noxious odors and high noise levels.
- Critical evaluation and observation skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds safely.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to work well with a team and independently.
Pay:
From $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
