The Pardee RAND Graduate School is the nation's oldest public policy graduate program and offers both master's and doctorate degrees in policy analysis.

It is also the only program based at an independent public policy research organization.

Position Description

The RAND Corporation and the Pardee RAND Graduate School has an exciting opportunity for a Vice Dean. The Vice Dean will provide strategic leadership and guidance for school leadership and students.

Furthermore, the Vice Dean is responsible for overseeing the academic programs and initiatives of the school, building the school's global reputation as it expands beyond the US, and ensuring all these activities align with the school strategic goals and objectives.

The Vice Dean will act as the deputy and represent the Dean in periods of absence.

  • Responsibilities include:_
  • Strategic Leadership Guidance
  • Provide leadership and guidance to faculty, staff, and students on academic matters and policies.
  • Develop the school's international profile and reputation through collaborations with RAND's offices outside the U.S. and potential international academic institutions.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the dean, offering strategic input on all aspects of the school and represent the dean in periods of absence.
  • Work on special projects as needed.
  • Academic Program Management
  • Oversee, develop, and implement academic programs and initiatives that support the mission and goals of the school.
  • Oversee faculty appointments.
  • Oversee the assessment and evaluation of academic programs, using data to inform decisionmaking and continuous improvements, including:
  • Developing and implementing assessment plans for academic programs
  • Collecting and analyzing data related to student learning outcomes, program effectiveness, and other key metrics.
  • Using assessment data to identify areas for improvement and make recommendation for programmatic changes.
  • Ensuring assessment efforts are in compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Oversee the Faculty Committee on the Curriculum and Appointments.
  • Budget and Fundraising
  • Collaborate with the associate dean of finance to manage the academic budget, including allocation of resources for academic programming and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with RAND development office to support fundraising activities

Qualifications:


  • Computer proficient in all Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Supervisory experience preferred, but not required.
  • Strong analytic and problemsolving skills, with the ability to use data to inform decisionmaking and improvement efforts.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage academic programs, including the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Experience in academic administration, including experience in program development, budget management, and personnel management.
Education Requirements

PhD in public policy, economics, social sciences, or relevant field required.


Experience- 20 or more years of interdisciplinary policy research.- 10 or more years of domestic and international leadership in policy setting.- 5 years or more teaching and/or engaging with policy students.- Strong track record providing guidance to faculty, senior researchers, and students in academic or a public policy research setting.- Demonstrated experience in developing international partnerships, strategic leadership, and leading special projects.

Location


Santa Monica, CA; or Washington DC; This position is flex, which provides the opportunity for work from home and the office, with at least 50% of days worked on-site at one of the RAND offices required.

Salary Range

$172,800 - $276,800
