Nationally recognized for groundbreaking innovation and some of the highest donor registration rates in the country, Donate Life Northwest has been improving health and saving lives in Oregon and SW Washington since 1975 through the promotion of organ, eye, and tissue donation.
With a budget of less than one million, a staff of six, and hundreds of active volunteers, our vibrant Donate Life Northwest community includes donor families carrying loved ones legacies, living donors sharing the joy of giving, those waiting with hope for transplant; grateful recipients paying it forward; organ, eye, and tissue recovery agencies, transplant centers, and other organization partners; and more than 3 million registered donors.
Programs target high school students, underserved communities, living kidney donation education, and community awareness activities.Who You Are:

What We Need:
DLNW seeks an Executive Director who wholeheartedly embraces our mission, vision, and values.
As we stabilize after an organizational shift, we are primed to establish a strong foundation and devise a clear roadmap for the advancement and execution of a refreshed fundraising and strategic plan.
In addition to an enthusiasm for fundraising, DLNW seeks a strong nonprofit leader who can assess program efficiency, engage in community collaboration, and provide staff and board with a practical vision.
DLNW offers flexible work schedules and understands the need for mutual support in balancing life and work.The Executive Director will supervise a team of 5, including the Development Coordinator, Operations Director, Program Director, and their teams.
Success Measures for the
Executive Director:
Build and maintain a strong understanding of the issues affecting donation locally and nationally.
Engage, build, and grow a strong board of directors.
Assess the effectiveness of development activities, tools, and infrastructure and implement a fundraising plan consistent with our strategic plan.
Coordinate with staff on program implementation and evaluation to grow Donate Life Northwests presence in the Pacific Northwest.
Key Responsibilities:
Board Engagement and Organizational Leadership
Ensure all programs, services, and outreach align with the organizations mission, values, and financial goals.
Realign the board of directors policies, bylaws, and strategic plan with the organizations goals.
Engage the Board in recruiting, training, and engaging new board members.
Work collaboratively with staff and board to further embed diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism within Donate Life NWs policies, practices, programs, and initiatives.
Serve as the principal voice and face of the organization to supporters, the media, and the general public.
Serve as the lead advocate for Donate Life Northwest.
Build relationships with and engage with a variety of diverse communities.
Organization Oversight
In conjunction with the
Operations Director:
Oversee the hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff.
Monitor adherence to agency financial policies and procedures and support the completion of an annual independent audit.
Develop annual budgets and revenue plans.
In conjunction with the
Program Director:
Develop annual work plans and staff and program evaluation strategies throughout the organization.
Implement programmatic metrics of success.
Engage volunteers and contributors in community outreach.
With Support from the
Development Coordinator:
Develop and implement a fundraising plan, including grants, special events, and individual and planned gifts.
Actively develop relationships with philanthropic contributors.
Develop meaningful and long-term relationships with community partners, contributors, and volunteers.
Qualifications:
5+ years of experience working in a leadership and fundraising capacity with a nonprofit organization or equivalent work environment.
3+ years of experience in direct staff and program management.
Proven track record in successful fundraising, including individual and corporate donors, sponsorship, grants, and planned giving.
Direct experience with budgeting, financial reporting, and contracts.
Demonstrated experience implementing strategic plans, organizational development, change, and transition management.
Ability to engage with community, staff, board, and contributors verbally, in writing, and through media.
Preferred Skills:
Interest in or connection with organ, eye, and tissue donation
Public education experience
Community engagement through media, public speaking, and advocacy
Experience with fundraising data, performance metrics, and evaluation criteria
