POSITION DESCRIPTION


This position will provide hands-on support data collection of intracranial electrophysiological (iEEG) projects in a clinical environment, which will include troubleshooting the recording system, administering cognitive tasks to patients and data management.

Relatedly, this position will help pre-process the collected data and perform the established analysis pipelines, include spike sorting, event extraction and time-frequency analysis.

The position will also implement iEEG cognitive paradigms, oversee and create 3D and 2D visual reconstructions of patients' data and medical scans to aid in the development of Lab Researchers' articles and presentations.

Occasionally (10%), the position requires overnight travel to some of the recording sites.

  • RESEARCH IN SPECIALIZED AREAS (90% EFFORT)
  • Interact with patients and their family members in hospital, including explaining the research project and addressing their questions.
  • Serve as a research coordinator for iEEG projects. Responsible for ensuring uninterrupted communication between individual laboratories, data transfer and data management.
  • Coordinate monthly iEEG committee meeting and prepare progress reports tailored to meet the needs of the requesting.
  • Assist with IRB paperwork as needed
  • Engaged in academic activities such as peerreviewed publications, research reports and grant proposals
  • PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY (5% EFFORT)
  • Participate in appropriate professional/technical societies or groups and other educational and research organizations.
  • Assist in reviewing research proposals, journal manuscripts, and publications related to area of expertise.
  • UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE (5% EFFORT)
  • Mentor undergraduate, graduate students, and postdocs on how to operate the iEEG projects in the clinical environment
  • Participate in activities of committees within the department, college, campus, and other University entities, as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 months of research experience.
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, critical problemsolving, and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative program and comfort navigating a clinical environment.
  • Organizational skills and systems
  • Ability to work fulltime and be oncall when there are implanted surgical patients (~2 weeks/month)

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

  • Experience with patients and in a caretaking role
  • 12 years' experience in a lab setting
  • General programming experience, such as Python/MATLAB/R and related data analysis toolboxes.
  • Understanding of intracranial EEG (iEEG) research.
  • Experience administering cognitive tasks
  • Possess skill set with patient MRIs including an understanding of MRI neuroanatomy.
  • Understanding of software version control systems such as Git and Mercurial.
  • Familiarity with command line scripting and different operating systems, such as Linux and Windows, and Mac OS.
  • Knowledgeable about issues with computer software and hardware, and experience troubleshooting.
