Job Summary

UFP Industries is seeking a Progress Server Database Administrator for a position located in Grand Rapids, MI., to join our team

Responsible for the daily operation of our Progress database systems in a Microsoft Windows environment. The role is influential in bringing forward great ideas and advancing Database Platforms.

Works under general supervision; relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and requires a certain degree of creativity and autonomy to perform the job.

Principal


Responsibilities:

  • Progress DBA, PowerShell Scripting, should understand complex PowerShell scripts and be able to develop new scripts.
  • Should be fully conversant in PowerShell Scripting and should be proficient in writing shell scripts for database administration and monitoring. Knowledge of Progress 4GL queries is a plus.
  • Maintaining high-volume tables
  • All Progress database administration functions including definition, maintenance, and support in a large production environment in an enterprise network, spanning multiple geographical regions preferably in a SAN environment.
  • Database administration, manage and support all Production, QA and Development environments.
  • Database design, architecture, implementation in an enterprise scale
  • Manage and monitor database backups and data growth. Refreshing QA and Dev environments from Live.
  • Database Performance Tuning.
  • Should be able to manage, train, recruit and motivate high performance team to deliver technical services.
  • Experience in Database Dump and Load and Progress upgrades.
  • Experience in code deployment, compilation and troubleshooting of issues relating to it.
  • Providing support to the Development Team.
  • Security administration in OS / Progress, user access definition, user access
  • management, monitoring and maintaining security of the Production environments.
  • Monitor databases for optimal performance and act to mitigate blocking and
  • performance-tuning issues.
  • Provide guidance to Application Development staff for query, stored procedures, functions, and database design.
  • Document database architecture, configuration settings, baseline performance metrics, and planned and unplanned outages.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in information systems or equivalent experience is required.
  • Proficient in documenting technical processes and procedures
  • OpenEdge 11.x/12.x, Operational knowledge of database backup and OE Replication is a plus.
  • PASOE and Pro2SQL experience a plus.
  • Experience with scripting languages, including T-SQL and PowerShell, query and index tuning, relational database security design concepts, reporting systems, and data modeling.
  • Proven ability to work independently to coordinate and solve moderately complex technical data management issues.
  • Proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple large projects as well as daytoday tasks.
  • Ability to describe complex tasks to nontechnical people.
  • Strong analytical skills in making the appropriate business and technical decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, organizational, and workload planning skills are essential for this position.
  • Ability to function independently and produce results that meet standards of quality, timeliness, and acceptability.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment with other IT groups and our business partners.
  • Ability to pass a drug test.
