About us
Food for Others is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization helping Northern Virginia residents meet their basic need for food.
We provide free, emergency food from our pantry, neighborhood, and mobile sites directly to clients; we supply other community organizations from our warehouse; and we supply thousands of weekend food packs for school children weekly during the school year.
Food for Others is a mission-focused organization where the applicant can expect to become involved in all aspects of the food bank/food pantry operation.
Summary statement of position:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, this position will manage the nutrition programs, farmers market food recovery, and food purchases at Food for Others.
Primary responsibilities:
- Conduct food purchasing activities across all programs, maintain food acquisition policy, track invoices and inventory.
- Coordinate produce recovery efforts at local farms and farmers markets.
- Manage client nutrition programs including onsite client/staff education and ongoing program development.
- Manage Food for Others' sponsored gardens.
- Manage and cultivate relationships with food vendors & farmers.
- Prepare reports for vendors to include the VA Farm Tax Credit.
- Other duties will be assigned based on incumbent's abilities and qualifications.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma (or equivalent) required. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Safe Food Handlers License, or willingness to obtain within the first few months of start date.
- Background in nutrition is required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint and a CRM (Salesforce preferred).
- Energetic and selfdirected, with effective time management and organizational skills including the ability to handle several priorities at the same time.
- Welldeveloped interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- 2+ years of related experience and/or training.
- Able to travel offsite to visit our community gardens and farmers markets as needed.
- Able to perform basic gardening tasks such as kneeling, lifting, digging, in the elements.
- Valid Driver's license.
Status:
Full time, Exempt
Schedule:
- January through May, Monday to Friday
- June through December, Sunday to Thursday

- Nutrition: 2 years (preferred)
- Food management: 2 years (required)
License/Certification:
- Registered Dietitian (preferred)
