    Job DescriptionSalary: $16.50/Hr

    Summary of Role:

    Under the direction and supervision of the Parks Maintenance Manager, the employee is responsible for assigned maintenance duties throughout the Glencoe Park District. This position shall perform basic maintenance tasks at the Takiff Center, Watts Ice Center, and Glencoe Beach/Boating Facilities and all district parks as assigned by the Parks Maintenance Manager. This position will typically work Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Some weekends and additional hours might be required. This position can be up to 40 hours a week with flexibility. This position will likely be working from May through August.

    Required Skills

    Must be a minimum of 18 years old. Graduate from high school or G.E.D. preferred. All part-time employees must pass a criminal background check which is paid for by the Glencoe Park District. Must possess a valid Illinois Driver's License. Due to the public nature of the work environment, the individual should be able to work independently but be able to assist staff at any time. Candidate must also possess the appropriate public relation skills and have ability to be courteous to the public at all times. Successful candidates will also be able to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisor, customers, and other job related individuals. An understanding of how to operate basic custodial equipment and basic landscaping equipment is required. Must have the ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Perform all district mowing duties to include: mowing, weed whacking, edging, blowing off hardscapes, etc...
    • Empty trash cans throughout the district and fill dog bag dispensers as assigned.
    • Empty garbage and recycling. Sanitize can liners, and surfaces weekly.
    • Perform general landscape and horticultural work as follows: plant and trim trees, shrubs, grade old and new areas, operate special landscape equipment..
    • Operate landscape equipment IE. Blower, Trimmer, Edger
    • Install, repair and paint fences and backstops.
    • Prepare and mark with athletic field lines; softball and baseball diamonds, tennis courts and football fields.
    • groom and prepare athletic fields for games.
    • Remove all garbage, paper, refuse material, etc. from parks and playground areas.
    • Required to complete and submit the use of work checklist system to ensure high standards of cleanliness
    • Follow the proper use and care of all tools, equipment, and related Glencoe Park District property as utilized by the department.
    • Follow the proper safety policies and procedures that are being implemented in accordance with the Glencoe Park District safety manual. Immediately report any accidents, incidents, or violations to the Parks Maintenance Manager.
    • Use all provided personal protective equipment as required.
    • Attend required in-service trainings, meetings and orientations.
    • Perform any custodial tasks as assigned by supervisor.
    • Perform any other Park District duties as directed.
