Job Title:
Maintenance Worker I
The Park Maintenance Worker I is responsible for performing a variety of park labor duties to maintain and/or repair park properties and equipment.
Hours: 40-hour work week. Primary shift is 7am -3:30pm. Additional hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the district.
Qualifications:
The Park Maintenance Worker I must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operation of all park district vehicles and equipment as directed and trained.
- General repair of all park district equipment, playgrounds, buildings and areas.
- Perform gardening activities including planting, watering, and weeding, by hand or with equipment.
- Operate hand or power equipment to mow turf and maintain soil areas.
- Prune and maintain plants, trees and shrubs.
- Maintain athletic fields, including synthetic turf, and athletic courts.
- Pick up litter, empty trash/recycling cans in parks and buildings.
- Cleaning and maintenance of park shelters, restrooms, and buildings.
- Removal of snow and ice from pedestrian, parking and maintenance areas.
- Responsible for the proper use and care of assigned equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Assist with set up and take down of holiday decorations, programs and special events.
- Keep all related equipment and tools clean, maintained, and stored properly.
- Keep equipment storage, and shop areas clean, and organized. Responsible for all maintenance storage and buildings locked each day.
- Open and close park district buildings for all assigned programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Abilities:
- Works in climates of varying temperatures and humidity.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50lbs. frequently.
- Able to work well with others, follow directions from supervisors and coworkers.
- Able to communicate with patrons, staff, supervisor, and other Park District Employees.
- Must be able to drive all park vehicles.
- Able to use the computer.
- Able to manage stressful situations, use common sense and "troubleshoot" problems.
- Has responsibility for the safety of the public in and around the parks and facilities.
The Park Maintenance Worker I must exhibit good problem-solving ability and good judgement with the mission of the Berwyn Park District.
Needs to develop a working knowledge and understanding of all Berwyn Park District forms and PDRMA (Park District Risk Management Association) forms and complete as needed.
Salary Range:
Starting at $20.00/hourly plus benefits.
