TITLE:
Assistant Principal Middle School and Elementary School (.50/.50)


SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Building Principal of both schools, the Assistant Principal assumes a leadership role in the general administration and supervision of the school including: assists teachers with curriculum planning, student assessment, and classroom management; assists Building Principal in the daily duties of administering the school and provides supervision and direction for students in instructional and non-instructional areas; and responsible to the administration in matters of curriculum, instruction, assessment, MCAS analysis, professional development for student success, and data analysis used to reach District and the School Improvement Plans

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides leadership in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum.
Organizes and manages student assessments, MCAS analysis, student placement, special education, and 504 plans.

Assists Principal in planning and implementation of professional growth and development for staff; manages professional development based on student achievement and progress.

Assists Principal in scheduling of classes; coordinates special programs and grants initiatives.
Assists in the preparation of teacher and student handbooks.

Assists in the in-service orientation and training of new and non-professional status teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.

Assists in coordinating student support services including counseling and conduct-related issues.
Monitors student attendance and assists to engage students and families in ensuring compliance with student attendance laws and policies.
Serves as Principal in the absence of the existing Building Principal.
Collaborates with Principal in interviewing and hiring qualified staff members, and performing annual staff evaluations, as needed.
Shares attendance at school-related night and weekend functions with Principal; attends School Committee meetings, as required.
Assists with preparation of the budget and monitoring the budget throughout the fiscal year.

Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities from time to time as warranted or directed by the Principal, the Superintendent, and/or the School Committee.


  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and ExperienceMasters Degree in Education or a related field from an accredited college/university is preferred. Valid state licensure in Massachusetts to practice as a Middle School (5-8) Assistant Principal is required. Minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience at the Elementary or Middle School level preferred. Three (3) years related administrative or leadership experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Experience in supervision and evaluation preferred.

Knowledgeable of current public school laws, and experience with student discipline, procedures, and due process at the Elementary and Middle School level preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of laws, regulations and policies governing education in public schools; curriculum and instructional programs and best practices in content areas, assessment, and data analysis.

Skill-based competencies include strong managerial and organizational leadership; excellent communication; analysis of data; strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.

Ability-based competencies include reading, communicating, interpreting, and assisting with the enforcement of appropriate state and federal statutes and school policies and procedures; working effectively with administration, colleagues, staff, students, parents, and the community.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, employee is required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods; move/traverse short and long distances, operate computer equipment/software.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy school environment. The noise level is usually moderate to loud but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities.
