Job Overview


The Assistant Director for GUMC Direct Response Marketing supports developing and deploying a comprehensive direct response fundraising and awareness program for the Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC).

Their primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the deployment of an annual direct response fundraising strategy for the schools and units under GUMC (School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Health, the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Biomedical Research) to meet fiscal year fundraising goals
  • Leading the SOM 4th Year Giving campaign each year, working closely with Annual Giving Data Analytics and Strategy partners to manage regular reporting on performance and progress to goals, and partnering with alumni engagement colleagues to support key engagement initiatives, events and programs to meaningfully engage GUMC donors, particularly alumni
Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation


The Annual Giving team within the Office of Advancement drives donor acquisition, retention and growth for Georgetown University through traditional and innovative direct-response marketing strategies, in-depth analysis, and strong internal partnerships.


The team is comprised of three functional areas:
data and analytics, marketing operations, and unit strategies.


The GUMC Direct Response Marketing team is part of the unit strategies functional area, and Assistant Director for GUMC Direct Response Marketing reports directly to the Director, GUMC Direct Response Marketing.


Key partnerships include:

  • GUMC Constituent Engagement
  • GUMC Development colleagues
  • GUMC leadership, faculty and staff
  • Key volunteers and volunteer leaders, including medical students
  • Advancement and GUMC Communications teams
  • Key external vendors
  • Additional and broadranging university partners as needed
Work Mode Designation

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in direct response marketing, development/fundraising, or similar _preferably_ in higher education or healthcare/hospital settings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Selfmotivation as well as ability to work well on a team
  • Strong organization skills and detail orientation
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously and consistently meet all deadlines and goals
  • Ability to assimilate data, exercise sound judgment and discretion, and work independently
  • Accuracy in materials preparation and the ability to maintain confidentiality
