Job Summary:

The Project Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the delivery of the Railroad Operations Supplemental Work Program.

This position works with our contractors and operators on Commuter Rail related infrastructure, asset projects, programs to ensure each is completed to the applicable standards, regulatory requirements, and within project agreements.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the delivery of Railroad construction and infrastructure projects in accordance with MBTA Commuter Rail policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the analysis and appraisal of current project status.
  • Forecast activities to ensure completion of project on schedule and on budget.
  • Prepare project related correspondence, reports, charts, and presentations utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, Database, and PowerPoint.
  • Organize and maintain effective means to interpret, present, and communicate project information at internal and external meetings with legislators, community groups, and public agencies.
  • Organize and prioritize workload, assist Project Manager(s) in identifying project needs/requirements.
  • Coordinate project tasks with other Capital Delivery Department personnel as well as other Departments, including the Capital Program Oversight Department.
  • Assist in coordinating projects with outside agencies as needed, including utility companies and community groups who are affected by proposed construction.
  • Work independently in addressing complex tasks in a time sensitive environment.
  • Followup on actions required for task completion while seeking guidance as necessary
  • Respond to each inquiry from customers, vendors, or coworkers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Attend offsite meetings as necessary.
  • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.
  • Available to work as per assignment by the MBTA twentyfour (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as directed by supervisory staff for severe weather conditions, emergencies or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service.
  • Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations assigned or directed.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:


  • Three (3) years of experience in office management or coordination; effective analytical, organizational, multitasking, and confidentiality skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal and time management skills
  • Have excellent customer service skills
  • The ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field.

Substitutions Include:


  • A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the Bachelor's degree requirement.
  • An Associate's degree from an accredited institution an additional three (3) years of directly related experience substitutes for the Bachelor's degree requirement.
  • A nationally recognized certification, or statewide/professional certification in a related field substitutes for one year of experience.
