  • Expectations and qualifications of a Pastoral Care Associate:
  • Providing spiritual and emotional support to residents, families, and staff through regular and systematic visitation with special attention to new residents and residents on hospice/comfort care
  • Functioning as a liturgical minister, including Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion
  • Representing St. Mary Center & Villa at funerals of residents and staff, when possible
  • Bachelor's Degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Spirituality, or related field along with experience in pastoral ministry and service

only Catholics who have made Baptism, 1st Holy Communion and Confirmation are able to apply


Working Conditions:

  • Some direct contact with patients/residents with communicable disease using acceptable universal precautions.
  • Substantial time spent with patients, their loved ones, and staff, which requires a high degree of spiritual sensitivity, emotional energy, and mental alertness.
  • Must have mobility through the healthcare institution's facilities, which are handicapped accessible.
  • Excellent listening skills required, as well as ability to handle stress associated with ministering to patients/residents and their loved ones who experience pain, suffering, death, and grief.
  • Comfort praying both spontaneously and formally with individuals and groups and speaking honestly about faith, hope, and charity, particularly within the context of endoflife issues
