ROLE SUMMARY
At Alliance, we believe that all of our scholars can achieve at high levels.

That's why we've raised our aspirations - to be in the top quartile of all schools in California and to ensure our scholars enroll in and graduate from college.

Reporting to the Vice President, Counseling and College Success, the Director, School Counseling is responsible for supporting middle school and high school counseling programs across all 26 Alliance schools, with an emphasis on the academic and social-emotional development of scholars to best prepare them for college readiness and college access.

They will work collaboratively with the larger Counseling and College Success Team and cross-functionally across organizational departments.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and implement a vision for a continuously improving school counseling program for all scholars, focused on the academic and socialemotional development of scholars._
  • Develop the arc of academic and socialemotional counseling activities and experiences scholars should receive from grades 612 to support a collegegoing mindset that leads to persistence to and through college;
  • Develop and maintain a bank of resources, reports, and templates for counselors, administrators, and other school staff across a variety of topics (e.g. credit recovery options, dual enrollment options, and socialemotional development);
  • Identify and implement quantitative benchmarks and data analysis using multiple platforms (e.g. PowerSchool, Panorama) to drive consistent, highquality scholar services and ongoing refinement of strategies to ultimately support all scholars in grades 612 in achieving milestones leading to college acceptance, matriculation, and success;
  • Lead and facilitate a yearlong Scholar Advisory Council to the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Develop others and leverage relationships within the Alliance to ensure ownership and implementation of effective strategies to achieve the counseling and college success vision._
  • Supervise the approach to school staff professional development and learning (e.g. inperson and virtual professional development sessions, professional learning communities, and meaningful assessment and feedback opportunities);
  • Provide guidance to instructional superintendents and school leaders on planning and managing a successful school counseling program to support scholar's academic and socialemotional needs;
  • Coach counselors on best practices to support scholar's personal and academic success, academic planning, and socialemotional development;
  • Work collaboratively with the Schools Strategy teams (Instruction, Diverse Learners, Leadership Development, Equity Programs, Scholar, Family, and Community Services, DEI, Instructional Superintendents) to ensure consistent and seamless support to school sites (e.g. Dual Enrollment, Mental Health counseling, 504 Plan guidance, graduation pathway guidance).
  • Develop and maintain successful operational elements of school counseling._
  • Serve as District Manager of UC Course Management Portal, supporting schools with maintaining accurate UC Course Lists for ag eligibility;
  • Manage master scheduling process in collaboration with SIS Team, providing support to schools to ensure accurate course information and scheduling in PowerSchool and accurate reporting to CALPADS;
  • Support counselors in interpreting transcripts and provide guidance on course placement for scholars transferring into Alliance;
  • Maintain relationships and contracts with various service providers (e.g. Clinical counseling supervision, credit recovery program partners, university counseling programs for intern placements) while also continuing to forge new relationships to provide wellrounded support to scholars;
  • Develop and implement systems to improve operational processes related to the work of counselors including historical grade imports, graduation and progress monitoring, graduation status tracking, and academic graduation checks;
  • Manage the development and professional growth of direct reports.
