What you will do


Let's do this Let's change the world In this vital role you will be responsible for the CMCi (Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls Integration) project management group supporting the transformation of a molecule to medicine through drug process and product development towards IND filing/FIH (first-in-human) studies.

The project managers in this group are responsible for integrating, developing and maintaining project schedules for Amgen's pipeline.


The Director will partner with Process Development (PD) functional leaders to develop and identify key activities, interdependencies and deliverables for molecules advancing through development portals and will ensure cross functional alignment and accountability.

The Director will lead assessments of resource capacity, identify creative solutions to solve for resource constraints, and support the governance process for resourcing and prioritization decisions.

Additionally, the Director will partner with Therapeutic Area Heads, Operations Leads, and Research to ensure alignment of timelines and key deliverables for Product Development Teams (PDTs) and provide communication regarding new team formation and membership.


Key Expectations:


  • Lead a team of project managers and support professional development of key talent, including serving as a mentor beyond direct reporting relationships
  • Collaborate with stakeholders from Operations, R&D, and Commercialization on critical program and portfolio issues, business case development, execution of digital priorities, and ensure key deliverables and stakeholder needs are met
  • Leverage data, business and financial acumen, and strategic thinking to analyze and deliver insights and support operations portfolio prioritization
  • Use strong understanding of drug development, commercialization, and operations planning to identify opportunities and risks to optimize project/portfolio timelines and investments
  • Explore, assess, and adopt applicable internal and external digital innovation and portfolio prioritization considerations, influencing cross functional partners as needed
  • Work in Planisware, MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, SmartSheets, and MS Teams

Basic Qualifications:


  • Doctorate Degree & 4 years of project/portfolio management, engineering, and/or life sciences experience

Or:


  • Master's Degree & 8 years of project/portfolio management, engineering, and/or life sciences experience

Or:


  • Bachelor's Degree & 10 years of project/portfolio management, engineering, and/or life sciences experience
  • In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience in project and portfolio management in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry
  • Technical understanding of biopharmaceutical and small molecule pharmaceutical product and process development, manufacturing and supply chain
  • Strategic experience to support optimization of timelines and resources within budget
  • Thought leadership experience and the ability to build immediate credibility with the senior management team and the organization. This includes the facilitating of discussions and promoting collaboration across multiple parties; engaging in dialogue to reach a conclusion together, compromising as necessary for optimal results in alignment with the Amgen values and leadership attributes
  • Ability to work with the business to understand and address the underlying business needs
  • Ability to adopt a big picture view and craft compelling strategies
  • Excellent critical and analytical thinking with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate complex technical topics to diverse audiences
