Description

SPECIAL PROJECTS/EVENTS COORDINATOR, _Biology_, to work closely with the director of administration and finance (DAF) and department head (DH) to manage a wide range of goal-oriented projects. Will collect, organize, and present data on project outcomes; coordinate and manage department-related scientific and social events, including departmental and faculty retreats, special symposia, seminars, meetings, celebrations/memorials; generate internal and external departmental communications on behalf of the DH. Special projects may be related to new or continuing initiatives, faculty recruiting and promotions, postdoc recruiting and professional development, updating/streamlining department workflows for efficiency, improving engagement within the community, and communications to increase visibility into the accomplishments and activities of the department. Will perform additional administrative tasks to directly support the DH and DAF, serve as liaison with MIT DLC's and collaborating institutions, attend various meetings, help DH plan ahead, and monitor and report on progress and outcomes.


Job Requirements

- REQUIRED_: bachelor's degree; two years' administrative and/or project/program management experience; proficiency with Microsoft Office; tact, diplomacy, and discretion with confidential information; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; attention to detail; and ability to prioritize and manage a variety of concurrent and competing tasks and identify needs and solutions to ensure effective and efficient project completion


_PREFERRED_:

advanced degree in relevant field (e.g., life sciences, business administration, communications); MIT experience or experience in other academic settings; proficiency with FileMaker Pro, advanced-level Excel skills, and experience with data visualization software; interest in and/or knowledge of biology.
