Location/Division Specific Information:


This position will be site based in Plainville, MA and will support our Viral Vector Services (VVS Plainville) business unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

At VVS Plainville, we deliver process development through commercial supply and offer the expertise and resources vital to help clients deliver innovative gene therapies.

Discover Impactful Work:

The Procurement Specialist III reports to the Sr. Manager Procurement into the Viral Vector Services (VVS) group at Thermo Fisher Scientific.

This position will source, order, track, and maintain appropriate inventory levels of materials and supplies for VVS supply chain teams.

This position includes responsibility for sourcing, maintaining, and ordering cGMP and non-cGMP materials from approved suppliers that align with these cGMP regulations.

In this role, they will work independently with mínimal supervision and direction, both from VVS Procurement and Supply Chain teams.

They perform work that consistently requires independent decision making, and the exercise of independent judgment and discretion.


A Day in the Life:


  • Assist Procurement in qualifying new suppliers according to the requirements of VVS's Supplier Qualification Program.
  • Source materials based on Thermo Fisher corporate Procurement guidelines and strategies.
  • Comply to VVS procurement SOPs and cGMP requirements.
  • Comply to VVS Expense Approval Policy for all materials, services, and capital equipment purchased for the Client and VVS.
  • Supervise incoming orders to ensure materials and equipment are being delivered, and services completed in a timely manner.
  • Perform supplier maintenance routinely to update supplier information i.e. ISO certifications / registrations.
  • Resolve material shortages, which are caused by supplier delivery delays, nonconforming material or other problems, to satisfactory resolution. Expedite emergency orders as needed.
  • Support the Accounts Payable process and work with them to resolve any purchasing issues.
  • Source, select, order, track, and follow appropriate inventory levels of all commonly used items for VVS.
  • Source, select, compare and negotiate favorable pricing with suppliers for materials and supplies.
  • Ensure purchase orders are accurate and complete to the price, quantity, item description, quote, and invoice. Ensure all quotes, confirmations, approvals, notes, attachments, and expected delivery dates are updated in the purchasing and inventory management system.
  • Negotiate contracts and inventory stocking programs.
  • Promote strong working relationships both internally across all departments and externally with key suppliers.
  • Identify and capitalize on opportunities to reduce purchasing costs and track the savings.
  • Generate, manage and complete request for quotes (RFQs) and samples for VVS.

Maintain and Improve Systems:

Keys to Success:


Education:


  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Management, Supply Chain, or other related discipline preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:


  • Minimum of 2 years ordering or purchasing materials preferably in biopharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs and spreadsheets is required.
  • Experience using purchasing and inventory management systems, SAP or Oracle is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:


  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as quotes, contracts, purchase orders and agreements, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).
  • Ability to function in a fast paced, dynamic environment with multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to use the internet and eCommerce systems to research and process orders.
  • Incumbent must have excellent interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills.
