Join the UA Department of Environmental Sciences' Integrated Environmental Science and Health Risk Laboratory and help create and pilot a national model of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) education called "STEAM inAction: Building a Cultural of Health".

This program is funded by the National Institute of Health and the science education objectives include understanding:
(1) how advisory boards can foster the development of critical thinking and communication skills; (2) how a certification program (rooted in environmental science, community science and visual art) can increase science and environmental health literacy (EHL); (3) how an equity-centered community design approach to data sharing strategies can build a participant's EHL; and (4) how to successfully broaden participation in STEAM learning by historically underrepresented individuals.

As a Science Education Partnership Community Outreach Professional III, you will be an integral component of the program and engage adults and 7th-12th graders via: (1)

Information product development - Create environmental science/health educational curriculum and other training modules/materials for "STEAM inAction:

Building a Cultural of Health" program, (2) Program Coordination - organization and execution of adult and youth micro-credentialed trainings, work with the project management and evaluation team, (3) Research - Assist with the evaluation/analysis of hypothesis-driven informal science education learning research, and (4) Develop Partnerships - Develop and cultivate key partnerships with partnering communities, local/state/federal government, and educators/education stakeholders.

Overall, in this position, the incumbent will plan, develop, coordinate, and implement community-oriented programs focused on meeting environmental science/health community needs and improving life skills with and for the partnering communities as well as deliver content, program, materials and technology solutions as needed, to support program objective

Duties & Responsibilities

Information product development
- _Duties to include but not limited to:_

  • Create environmental science/health outreach materials,educational curricula/modules and trainings for program
  • Coordinate and lead the creation of educational materials, including modules, workshops, curricula, and academies.
  • Communicate program results to peers and partners through all mediums.
  • Work with school districts, teachers, and policy makers to understand the trends and requirements for in school curricula to ensure STEAM inAction: Building a Cultural of Health" meets needs
  • Design and deliver STEAM integration adult and youth microcredentialed trainings that develop skills in critical thinking, creative problem solving, environmental health, justice, and communication.
  • Integrate environmental health and justice education into core curricula to help meet state science standards through professional development and direct student outreach.

  • Inform program direction and efforts
  • Work closely with the project management and evaluation team
  • Planning and coordination of youth/community advisory board meetings
  • Maintenance of STEAM inAction website
  • Coordination of STEAM inAction management meetings

Research Design, Data Analysis, and Publication
- _Duties to include but not limited to:_

  • Assist in the design of learning research
  • Maintenance of data archive including quality control and data management
  • Data analysis and statistical evaluation of results
  • Evaluate and document results and impacts of environmental health education program on both adult and student audiences
  • Presentation and publication of training impacts and efficacy of curriculum results as reports to stakeholders and manuscripts to the scientific community.
