    HR Benefits Specialist & Support - Denver

    This position is only open to Colorado state residents.

    This position is covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).

    New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

    About the Work Unit

    The Division of Human Resources (DHR) provides all human resource (HR) functions at the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), which includes talent acquisition, compensation management, performance management, benefits, employee and labor relations, HR compliance, employee development, benefits program administration and Human Resources Information System (HRIS) management.

    About the Position

    This position provides professional and administrative support to the HR Division, specifically, although not limited to, the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Benefits Unit.

    Support for the CHRO includes supporting calendar scheduling as well as working to ensure participation from appropriate stakeholders at meetings and events.

    This position provides support to the CDOT Benefits Unit by assisting with processing benefits-related information and using existing processes, procedures, and operational guidelines to assist employees with benefits-related issues and/or questions.

    This position also provides customer service support to the HR Division by directing phone calls and inquiries to the appropriate HR unit, arranging meetings logistics, travel arrangements, briefing/preparation materials, office logistics, HR employee recognition programs, division purchasing, etc.

    This position requires a high level of professionalism and confidentiality as well as excellent customer service. This position may participate in researching and analyzing organizational policies to help inform decisions. This position may also participate in special HR projects and initiatives to achieve the HR Division's priorities, and objectives.

    Your schedule will primarily be 8:00 am – 5:00 pm work hours, Monday-Friday, but we are flexible to meet your work/life balance needs while ensuring CDOT business needs are met.

    You will likely work a hybrid schedule with a combination of in-office and remote work.
    Occasional travel, including the possibility of some evening and early morning events.
    Required to protect and maintain the confidentiality of information and documents.
    Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

    Minimum Qualifications

    5 years of full-time professional work experience with a primary focus in benefits administration, human resources, reviewing documentation for accuracy, and/or providing high-level technical support (see description below).


    OR


    A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND 1 year of full-time professional work experience with a primary focus in benefits administration, human resources, reviewing documentation for accuracy, and/or providing high-level technical support (see description below).


    OR


    A master's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Communications, Human Resources, Psychology, Sociology, or another field of study closely related to the duties of this position.

    High-level technical support


    includes tasks such as tracking data and projects, responding to internal and external requests for information, reading and interpreting policies and procedures, tracking and monitoring a budget for accuracy, working with a variety of computer applications and software packages, scheduling appointments and meetings, and providing a high level of customer service.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Theexceptional applicantwill possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following:

    Experience in benefits administration, including medical, dental, life, leave, retirement, workers' compensation, disability, and wellness;
    Knowledge of employment laws, rules, and regulations, such as Family Medical Leave Act, Short Term Disability, Workers' Compensation, and State of Colorado Personnel Rules;
    Ability to work under tight deadlines and be adaptable to changing assignments;
    Ability to take initiative to solve problems in an innovative manner;
    Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders with sensitivity to their needs, priorities, promises made and commitments;
    Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills;
    Strong time and project management skills, including prioritization and multi-tasking ability;
    Excellent reasoning, investigative, analytical, and problem-solving ability;
    Excellent facilitation, presentation, and communication skills, both written and oral;
    Strong attention to technical detail and accuracy;

    Experience with payroll and benefits administration software;

    Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Gmail and Google Applications, SAP, BenefitSolver, OnBase, and the ability to quickly learn other software systems.
